Jamie’s Ministry of Food, Bradford hosts Fragile X Syndrome group.

A special Halloween cooking lesson took place recently at Jamie’s Ministry of Food in Bradford for young people with special needs and Fragile X Syndrome – a genetic condition affecting the X chromosome.

Six young people took part in the class at the centre, where muffins and fruit punch with seasonal twists were on the menu.

Before getting stuck in, the MOF team welcomed the group and talked them through the ingredients they were going to use. Then they were let loose – everyone worked together as a group, sharing out tasks such as weighing and measuring. However, the real fun began when the food mixers were brought out! Things got a bit messy, but the muffins were soon ready for the oven.

While the muffins were baking, the team had more fun creating a Halloween-inspired fruit punch with kiwi and lime jelly. The drink was a very spooky shade of green, but everyone had a taste and agreed it was really yummy. Competition between the group stepped up a notch when it was time to decorate the muffins. With coloured icing and Halloween decorations, the finished muffins looked truly "spooktacular"!

It was great session and a fantastic opportunity for everyone to try something new and pick up some top Jamie baking tips. The group are now looking forward to organising another cooking session with the Bradford Ministry of Food team very soon. Thanks to everyone who took part and to our fantastic Ministry crew in Bradford – Soraya, Lisa and Andie.
