GENERAL BLOG [ Delete ]
Last yr ended with a bang being sick and all and not being able to work for that catering company....
ANYHOWS... i ended up going away for a holidy in Mt Maunganui and got to taste a Copenhagen cone, where it was a waffle cone, with icecream sprinkles and syrup and cream mmmmmmmm mmmmmm....
Anyways i enjoyed asian made garlic chips their too, and the sun beach surf jelly fish and a henna tatoo, before i came back to gisborne with my parents!
I enrolled to do a Hospitality and Catering course for the yr where i get a certificate as a Kitchen hand, but am waiting approval from the welfare manager to agree i can be waivered to do this course, because im on dissbility pension it means im not meant to be working or studying being on the pension itself, although i go to brain and injury rehab it means i get subsidised to attend their, however being an individual with a dream to become a chef, it means they personally have not got the resources to support just one person in particular me..............
Their are cooking classes but their reserved for those with severe brain injury, and more competent then most....
So i started on monday, and it was orientation day, everyone today was in class, 14 students would ya belive some i think aren't serious, but others i reckon could give it their best shot, mind u you never know!
The cooking centre is being revamped, and its getting a makeover for the first time in ages, instead of normal stove ovens, when i had used the class room yrs ago, their now installing gas ovens to be used, so they should considering its more or less used in the chef industry world wide now, depending though....
I get my student id's sorted tommorow, and also get my uniform fitted as well!
But tonight i best make my lunch...including my sons, i got however a mean headache this morning and i took my time, was late to class, but rang in i would be late....this course excites me, in a few weeks we are heading down to a place called Napier, where we are going to check out a 4 and a half star hotel, where a friend of the tutors runs, to check it out see what food they serve, and someone from class will get work placement their for a week or two!
That would be AWESOME, today however i got to play chug a lug at Lunch time where we had to drink fruit vegetable with diffrent sauces and honey as fast as we can, to win a box of chocolates stationary, and Vouchers for a book store!
I cam in third and got some drinks and chocolates that was good enough!
2moro, we are doing a mini version of Jousting, so i may enter that!, but the free lunches are a buzz, where they get the students off all courses to mingle, im now ok im not the only one at the Polytechnic with my dissabilty Aspergers syndrome!, their is another girl in my class with that!
Thursday i will be doing a refresher course on Food Safety, and checking where i need to touch up, so its still a requirement and can be usefull to help other people within class!
Next Weds we do a trip out, which is exciting so i got to have my own munchies for the trip and we shall be sweet!
also on the agenda food and beverage units, we get marked on how well we do in that section, and comming into class we have to be in 8.30am uniform on standing in class, so im going to have to book a taxi and hopefully 2moro @ 5pm i get my course approved so i can get some travelling allowance, its really annoying, because im paying 32 bucks a day for 60 kms, and im paying that out of my own pocket...so hope my app tommorow goes well!
I have to look online shortly for some shoes i need two, one pair for the cooking room which is the training kitchen, the other is black for silver service when we get marked for waiting tables for some of our presentation programmes, where we get to display our skills...
Now the polytech now owns the kitchen for the student cafe, so we will be providing the food and helping run the kitchen, as part of our work placement, otherwise work at the emerald hotel will be sought as well! I was wondering wether i should go their because i had applied to work their twice, but being in Napier sounds nice also, but i would have to arrange babysitting for my son!
Well its time for me to sign off,

It resulted in a party after all the food was laid out... not to mention Steamed Pudding mmmmmmmm the best....Anyhows in the morning because i was partying from 5pm to 4am in the morning my uncle had made
ABALONE SAUSAGES and i didnt know
So after one bite of them i was seen spitting the remaints of one bite off one with laughs....
And most functions wether be family or not must have porridge with cream, and it must come with thickly buttered toast!
And it seems to taste better when out in the country!
Mosty Maori kiwi celebrations being minor or big usually have food donated by family members to help out.....
Anyways time to sign off so i can get some shut i, am still feeling the aftereffects of the last nights party!

Cooking for Life
Thu 18 Dec 2008GENERAL BLOG
Hi as you all know im adidasdd, that nick name came from mates overseas, where i had the lable adidas as my whole wardrobe at one stage, and the dd stands for my bra size, stupidly uncany i know.
29 and i have my son right beside me at the local brain and injury centre, where i attend as a client.
I have done some certificates in the food industry, and its come with some basic exsperience also, i worked here at the centre for a yr and a half serving lunch very day working from 10am - 1pm because i had to prepare cook serve and clean, which was a big learning curve considering i'd never done it before, i was fortunate enough to have a caregivers certificate, thus getting me through the door....
Most clients are here with brain injuries and some with other dissabilities with mine such being Autism but a form of that called Aspergers syndrome.
At the moment im job hunting for a part time job, and its to kill the bills, yep i've got a back log of debt, so hunting at the time being for a part time job in the food industry here is bleak considering a restaurant i applied for refused to acknowledge me because i got told racial sparks are causing staff to leave, and i decided scrap that not interested in managers who aren't considerate!
I have applied at a place called works bar http://www.workscafe.co.nz check out the site, am more or less Kitchen hand material....
On the other hand this yr xmas through to new yrs people will be flocking towards this big MUSICAL EVENT!
www.rhythmandvines.co.nz
This is so popular people are actually paying to camp, which is situated at the Awapuni Sound shell called the BW Camping grounds
www.bwcampgrounds.co.nz
On the other hand i applied for a position to work at the Camping grounds for three days with a catering company called GOURMET SHUTTLE
www.gourmetshuttle.co.nz
They have brought their cooking trailers with them about 4 big ones, the camping grounds will have about 3 on site, and one is opening up further around the corner down the road, to allow another 3 thousand people, at the moment our town
Gisborne New Zealand, could possible be looking at over ten thousand people comming through for this huge music event which is world wide, hence we are the first country in the world to see the sun.!
I find out in the weekend wether i have a job with the company, to be honest their is nothing down here for a long term job depending, so i mentioned that in my interview which i had yesterday, was a bit of a wait, however in the hot sun i perservered, and manged to get seen.
It was thought wether or not i could handle the work load due to the fact that i aint held down a proper job, but untill i get rid of my bills then i can look at working fulltime i'd have to put my son back into afterschool care.....
Inbetween all this im busy preparing my gardens for summer, moneys tight and vegetables are quite the price apart from tomatoes being 1.00 a kg at the moment, a bonus if u want to do relish or pasta sauce.....
Im enrolled at a dissabilty centre called work bridge here so if i get the job, i'd need support transport wise...as yesterday i biked to my interview and my chain came off and i appeared with greasy hands, most embarrasing!
At the moment inbetween then im weighing up wether i would be best learning more by corrospondence http://www.stotts.co.nz/2/57/1/gourmet_cooking.pm doing this course or training here http://www.tairawhiti.ac.nz/default.asp … amp;ID=165 I find out this afternoon after 1pm New Zealand time.
While attending the brain and injury centre known as The Gisborne Stewart centre i get a life skills coach Annette who teaches clients their course interests or works through them with their goals....Mines to be a chef....
Its taking a while because i have Autism and im also a solo mother and im being supported by a place called ccs, who work with people with dissabilties to maintain a level of independancy to help me live independantly on my own. great support...
Well i have been told its time to call it quits i'll post how i go from this afternoon this week, computer time is over for me
