About
Well, my real name is Adriaan van Jaarsveld, and that would look familliar to anyone Dutch! I am the eldest son and have a younger sister. I stay with my mother, as my father have passed away in 2000. I don't know where this cooking-thing has come from, but as long as i can remember i've been collecting recipes from books, magazines and old aunties! Wich would come in very handy later lol! I have absolutely no formal training/education in cooking, and everything i know is self-taught... Ok not everyting... I did watch a certain food programme of a certain Mr. Oliver, and later Nigella Lawson. . . 'but through trial and error i have aquired the basics of being a cook. And learning from my mom and granny :-) I am the first person to admit that even though i am quite handy in the kitchen, i still got so much to learn! But i do have a stubborn streak, and wanting to bespoke everything from porridge to pudding!!! (wich doesn't always result in someting tasty i must admit...) I have been working as a chef at a local hotel for the past 5 years now, but feel that i am being short changed, literally in the sense of money (it is my job after all) and on a personal level too... No chance really to show what you are made of, just sticking to a certain menu and certain style of cooking, garnishing ect. My dream is to open my own Bed and Breakfast one day, wanting to charm both local and overseas travelers' palets with some traditional South African cooking, My style of course!!! So here's to a prosperous future for me, as well as all of you reading this! If any of you have something to encourage me to reach my dreams, please feel free to drop me a msg! Lots of South African love, Adriaan x x x PS: u should taste my traditional pumpkin tart!! Promised to be the best you ever tasted!

Luxury Banana Pudding

Sat 17 May 2008
GENERAL BLOG

This recipe was the result of wanting an easy, quick and tasty pudding for friends that unexpectedly showed up on one Easter Week-end.

Ingredients:

1 bunch ripe bananas
250ml  fresh cream
200ml castor sugar (or to taste)
1 tsp vanilla essence
handful of glace cherries
handful of marshmallows, cut
lemon juice
2 TBS mayonnaise

Method:

Beat the cream, adding the vanilla, gradually adding the castor sugar until incorporated.
consistency depends on taste, but a thicker consistency works better.
then fold in the rest of the ingredients until well mixed.
Meanwhile cut bananas into rings and pour over just enough lemon juice to cover,
then add to cream-mixture and mix.
keep refrigirated until needed.
Garnish with cut glace cherries and sprigs of fresh mint leaves.

Variation:

You can basically bespoke this with what you have, keeping it realitive of course!
I once made it basically the same as above, but left out the glace cherries and substituded it with botteled Marachino Cherries.  Deliscious!

My favourite variation is to leave out the cherries and vanilla, and substitute it with cut Turkish Delight and a few drops of Rosewater.  Try it and this will become your "New Turkish Delight" !! big_smile

Comments are welcome smile

greetings,
Adriaan
