We do a lot of our growing in pots as we have terrible soil where we live. I hope my blog will help others with similar or space issues to also be able to produce their own food in a small living space.Tomatoes
I have been a bit slack of late and not really posted what we have been up to the last few months so I thought I had better get a move on before it got to be too much and got out of hand.
This year we have sooo many seedlings and tomatoes that OG has had to put a few plants in the ground, and in pots too. At the beginning of November he built a large tripod to grow three tomato plants we purchased.
I hope you enjoy the next few pages of our tomato adventures
Tomatoes
These were built of bamboo and wrapped with gutterguard so the vines had something to cling to, as the tomatoes have grown, we have also tied them with old stockings/pantyhose.

The three varieties we used for this are ‘Beefsteak’, ‘Grosse lisse’, and ‘Burkes Backyard - Italian Tomato’. We purchased these as large seedlings from a local garden centre.

Grosse Lisse is a very old variety that is very popular in South Australia as it is fairly drought tolerant and is a very heavy producer. I remember my Dad growing it when I was a child 30+ years ago.

The other two are newer to SA and, although we have grown beef steak successfully before, this is the first time we have grown the Burkes Backyard variety.
The Tomatoes have grown amazingly fast over the last 5 weeks
