Christmas Dinner - the where and what

GENERAL BLOG

Hello All,
In response to JO's query, our family will be at home in Lake County, California. We do a cioppino on Christmas Eve.  This is an Italian-style fisherman's stew, popular in coastal communities in California. Basic components include a tomato and wine-based sauce; a clean white-fleshed fish; mussels and clams in-shell; and shrimp.  Typical seasonings are sea salt, black pepper, bay leaf, and garlic.  Saffron can be added if you're feeling sassy. Serve with rice, or sourdough bread if you have it.

Christmas Day, we usually do a crown rib roast or prime rib, and some sort of fowl with aromatic fruits or herbs. Oven-roasted asparagus with olive oil, sea salt, and Meyer lemon. Cornbread and oyster stuffing. North American true wild rice (manoomin). Fresh cranberry and orange sauce with ginger. Mashed potatoes with egg. Big bowl of mixed greens as a salad. Some sort of roll. Scads of pies. We put the Hobbits to shame.

Happy Holidays to you all. And peace be with you.
