Made this huge bowl of bread salad yesterday.  It's what I ate for much of the summer.  Summer's a memory but I'm still hungry for this!

Got this recipe from Suvir Saran's first book, Indian Home Cooking.  Different from a lot of recipes I've seen around but I really liked it.  Made a raita of yogurt, tomatoes, red onion, chilies and mint.
Also, in this and some other recipes, he uses whole spices the texture of which I have come to like.
You get a nice crunch but not a big burst of flavor as most of it has cooked out.

It's Gravenstein season again and I've been busy drying, eating and making (and freezing)  filling for my apple crostatas.  But couldn't let the season go by without a good old American apple pie and one loaded with apples as well. (And yes, it is sitting on the washing machine.  lol)

This is my curry dish for the month.  I really like it but I think I should have added stock instead of water.  Still good all the same.  I used Calabrian chilies which added sufficient heat.  Made a red onion and tomato raita to go with and served over basmati rice.  Tasty dish!  Thanks, Mummza!
