About
I am Soraya Hamid, of mixed malay & chinese parentage; married with two grown up sons and 7 cats. I grew up mainly on chinese and malay cuisines which tended to have nyonya or straits chinese influences. My father was well travelled and thus introduced us early on to various other cuisines, opening our palates up to so many different flavors, textures, etc. Being more health conscious now, I prefer cooking from fresh, whole and good quality ingredients. The simpler the recipe the better. My weakness is spicy food, cakes and puddings. I love to try recipes and always looking out for new and interesting ones. I am currently living in Jakarta, fulfilling the role of a diplomatic spouse.

This photo was taken last march near the foothills of Mt Merapi. This volcano erupted late October causing extensive destruction & many fatalities. I hope the vendor was not in the area at the time.
