these are one of my hubby's faves and I baked them for him yesterday to celebrate our ten-year anniversary...we married in October 2007, but we've been together since I was 18! now that's something to celebrate.
Black Tie Brownies
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening or butter, room temp
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 large eggs
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup (or a 100g bar) roughly chopped white chocolate
optional: 1/3 cup chopped hazelnuts
Heat oven to 350°F (180°C)
Grease a square pan, 9x9x2 inches
Mix sugar, shortening/butter, vanilla and eggs with an electric mixer until smooth.
Stir in the remaining ingredients except white chocolate chunks with a wooden spoon/rubber spatula. Spread batter into pan, then sprinkle chocolate on top and press lightly with your flat palm.
Bake 20 minutes, then allow to cool completely in pan before cutting into squares.

who else wishes they could curl up into a ball and only wake up once spring has blossomed?! jamie, your 'at home' dvds are enough to drive a snow-bound person crazy! what i wouldn't give for fresh, local, organic veg and fruits and berries! i know, patience. the forcast for sunday isn't half-bad, supposedly it will be thawing soon, and before you know it there will be wild greens carpeting the forest floors and the farmer's market won't look so dreary anymore. actually spotted snowdrops blooming their dainty little heads in a thawing flower bed yesterday. there is hope!

LOVE this site. Am so happy that Jamie put this in motion, and a bit sad I didn't discover it sooner!
Here's a lil' picture of my kitchen island and a birthday cake I made. I'm addicted to fresh flowers, nature, cooking and gardening, and I am lucky enough to live with my two best friends: my husband and my little Cavalier!
