Well here is my 2nd blog since joining this fantastic site with food lovers like myself.

Since my last blog, I have been very busy in the garden to say the least as some of you will already know after reading my posts on the forum.

At the start of the year I had a real urge to grown my own veg and herbs for a number of reasons.

I was sick of the poor quality in super markets or not having any on shop floor.
I was interested to see the difference between produce bought from super markets and the produce I was to grow myself
To keep occupied and have a hobby that would keep me busy for a hour or so a day and some thing I could learn about via hand on and reading up.

So off I went to town to see what I could grow and after an hour or so of looking about I decided to grow the following. Rocket, Peppers, Chillies, Carrots, Potatoes, Spring Onions, Coriander, Basil.

Bought them all for fantastic value and I could not wait to get home to crack on with the graft. I had just bought a cold frame a few weeks before which was to go on the rockery. I  planted all of the above with excitement of seeing the final product!

The rocket was true to it’s name and it rocketed up (sorry for the pun) So I wondered what I could use it with so I decided on a Pizza with rocket on and also a little rocket salad with a simple vinaigrette dressing. I am a big fan of rocket and this tasted 10 times better than the rocket I have ever bought before, without trying to sound big headed there. I was amazed to taste the difference and it was very simple to grow.

Then everything followed on - the spring onions were really tasty and kicked arse of anything you can buy from a shop.

But the potatoes were out of this word. How could they taste so different??? I really don’t know. So simple to grown and take around 8-11 weeks from planting to eating.  I dug them up and placed them in a paper bag in the garage after taking a few into the house and experimented with them. Cut the potatoes into quarters drizzled with a little oil and put them in a hot over. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. I am over the moon with the finished product and can’t wait to grow some more.

Still waiting on the carrots and chillies though!!!!!!!
