Maddi posted a lovely pic of her apple waffles the other day. This made me regret not possessing a waffle iron. Until then I refused to buy one, because I thought, it was just another rarely used gadget taking up room in my cupboard. ![]()
But thanks to maddiīs post, the following came to mind: My mother-in-law is collecting nearly every kitchen tool she can get hold of.
I asked and I hit the bullīs eye! She gave it to me without further negotiations! ![]()
This morning I made waffles of yeast dough for us. They are not too sweet and ideal for breakfast... ![]()
Caroline you are telling me I must have this waffle iron
, I thought it would not interest me until I came across the yeast dough
so please please tell us how you did them, it's a wonderful invenzione and having them for breakfast more wonderful if possible![]()
The recipe is from "Ich helf Dir kochen" - a German standard (?) cook book. Itīs really easy
250 g plain flour
20 g (or one packet) yeast
50 g sugar (or just a tbsp, if you donīt want to have sweet waffles)
125ml milk (luke warm)
3 eggs
75 g (unsalted) butter
1 pinch of salt
lemon zest (optionally)
vanilla sugar (optionally)
some soaked raisins (optionally)
Put flour in a bowl, make a well, pour in luke warm milk, add sugar, crumble yeast into the milk.
Let sit rest for 15 min.
Add other ingredients and make a vicous batter, let rise for another 15 min.
Heat the waffle iron, grease if needed, spread 2-3 tbsp of the batter on the iron and close. The waffle wonīt stick, so you wonīt have problems to look after half a minute or so, if it is done already.
You can sprinkle powdered sugar on top or just butter them and eat with jam or so. I found them great. ![]()
I also made hazelnut waffels with a completely other batter the other day and they werenīt half as good...
thank you Caroline for the moment I'm going to store your recipe in my archivio and see if I can find the iron![]()

Madamada. Itīs totally emberassing for me: I gave the wrong amount of milk. Must be: 325 ml. ![]()
Recipe works, though. I made it, just to see what happens. Its a bit difficult to spread the batter on the waffle iron, but it works... ![]()
