Hi guys,
Tonights BBQ to raise some money for the Northampton Harlestone Road Allotment Association was a grest success!
We cooked for over a hundred people tonight and kick started the funds which will enable the allotment commitee to buy equiptment such as rotavators etc for the plot holders.
As well as that it was a great chance for plot holders new and old to come together and get to know each other. The allotments are thriving again! it is now becomming a great community where people young and old can learn all about growing their own fruit veg and herbs by helping and teaching each other.
Following years of allotments falling out of fashion and largely becomming neglected it is great to see the changes and to see that people are once again getting into growing real food for themselves... as well as thet it helps keep you fit!!!
Long may it continue... the future of the allotment is looking bright!
All the best guys
Dave
Congratulations Dave! It gives me hope to see all the gardening happening. I love that you are doing events because the 'Community' in Community Gardens is SO important! All Power to you!![]()
You couldn't have said it better mate!
The allotments are ALL about community. The allotment is no longer the domain of the elderly gent who spends all of his time there to escape his Mrs!!! old boys who sit in their shed all day smoking roll ups and grow marrows have their plce still of course, but the main community now are young families with young children all realising how good fresh home grown food is!
We have plans to put in small 5 pole plots for children, put in a community area for the children who are up there all day with their parents can go to play, we have plans to do things like christmas markets, in the summer the best kept allotment compitition, best childrens plot compitition, tallest sunflower comitition etc, etc, etc all to raise money for the allotment comitee. the idea is that as well as helping to build a fun, tightknit community money will be raised for the comitee so that they can afford to improve the site, they can buy equiptment such as rotavators etc that plot holders can borrow, because at the moment if a plotholder needs a rotavator they have to privatley rent one and they can be very expensive!
What a wonderful community effort! I think it's great that you can all share in the equipment etc. and the comaraderie is part of the fun, in addition to growing your own delicious fruits and veg. The plots for the children is a great idea! Gets them interested and makes it fun for them. Sounds like you had a great time at the BBQ...
