Most people in Australia will have old sandpits for their kids that are basically a plastic shell shape - some also use them as a paddling pool. Quite often they are left out in front of peoples houses once they are cracked or damaged for the hard rubbish pick up.

We use them as mini gardens. They make excellent Herb gardens and we also have one planted up with Strawberries. This particular one has a slow bolting coriander in it which tastes just yummy in asian style broths and noodle soups. We gave one to our daughter who lives in a small apartment with lettuces and herbs such as mint, parsley and chervil. She has it on her tiny balcony and loves it.
