After a year in the writing and a lifetime in the making, Jamie’s Comfort Food is now out in Britain.

The book is all about food that puts a smile on your face – whether it’s hours in the kitchen making the ultimate lasagne, cooking an insane burger on the barbecue with some friends, or a reviving ramen when you’re feeling down.

Inspired by everything from childhood memories to the changing of the seasons, and taking into account the guilty pleasures and sweet indulgences that everyone enjoys, it’s brimming with 100 exciting recipes that you’ll fall in love with. It’s the food you really want to eat, made exactly how you like it. It’s not food for every day, it’s the kind of food you can cook up at the weekend as a treat, or to treat the ones you love. We may be biased, but it might just be Jamie’s best book yet.

Accompanying the book is a Channel 4 TV show of the same name, which airs at 8pm on Monday 1 September. So tune in then, and pick up your copy of Jamie’s Comfort Food right here.

Nominations for the annual LateRooms.com Best Kept Secret Awards are now open. It’s your chance to vote for your favourite hidden hotels and potentially win a classy weekend in Warwick.

Last year our esteemed editor Jim Tanfield helped to judge the best dining hotel, and this year we’re doing the same, so if you’ve had an amazing lunch or dinner at a British hotel recently, click here to vote for it and enter a prize draw for 2 nights at Chesford Grange in Warwickshire. It closes Sunday, so get voting!

A lot is made of the beds and rooms at hotels, but after a hours of travelling or a hard day’s walk in the countryside, what you really crave is a good meal. Last year Jim lucked out on his first-ever trip to Edinburgh, with a brilliant meal at Dakota (pictured). To find out why he loved it read his review here. It seems he has good taste, as the hotel went on to win the category.

Jim said: “This was genuinely difficult as all three finalists showed remarkable commitment to making their hotel’s dining experience as rich as possible. However the DAKOTA pipped it because of its simple menu with local sourcing at the forefront – it’s fresh, popular, and has managed to grow a significant fan-base organically.”

So now you know what tickles Jim’s taste buds, get voting and let us know what hotels you love in the comments below.

Bad weather be damned, the party goes on!

This weekend, in the sleepy Cotswolds, Jamie will play host to The Big Feastival with his mate Alex James from Blur. Over three days there will be fantastic music, delicious food, incredible chef demos and fun for all the family. We’ve got rockstars all over the site, from Fat Boy Slim and Jamie Cullum on the main stage, to Jamie Oliver and Gennaro Contaldo doing cooking demos.

The rest of the line-up doesn’t disappoint either; also getting you in the party spirit are Kelis, Laura Mvula, the Cuban Brothers and Stornoway, while in the kitchens we have lots of your Food Tube favourites, as well as the incredible talents of Heston Blumenthal’s right-hand man Ashley Palmer-Watts, Gizzi Erskine, Mark Hix and Nathan Outlaw, whom we caught up with at Feastival back in June.

And for the little ones there’s the one and only Justin Fletcher, as well as animals from the Cotswold Farm Park and a fun fair (that last one is for the adults too). So what are you waiting for? Day passes and weekend tickets are still available, so ignore the rain and pick them up here!

There will still be some on the door too if you decide to come along last minute.

Between drinks, legendary Welsh poet Dylan Thomas memorably cautioned against going gentle into that good night – advice that the Jamie Magazine team are keen to embrace; rather than succumbing meekly to the arrival of autumn, they are raging against the dying of the light.

They are so determined to hold on to summer that they’re giving away a bumper batch of summer-themed goodies to tempt you to try their award-winning iPad edition. From today, iPad users can download not one but two sun-filled issues of Jamie Magazine, completely free!

jamie magazine

Issue 40 is their summery BBQ special, featuring Jamie’s guide to getting the most from your barbecue, with recipes including Thai-spiced lamb with Asian ratatouille and French-style chicken (pictured). There’s also editor Andy Harris’s lowdown on fresh salad greens, with sumptuous Spanish-style aubergine, pepper & jamon salad with paprika dressing.

jamie magazine

Then there’s issue 39, last year’s Italian Issue, which, as you’d expect, is crammed full of Jamie’s favourite foods. There are Jamie’s Italian chicken recipes, rustic pasta dishes from Puglia, chocolate puddings from Tuscan bakers Amedei, and Jamie;s mate Pete’s fresh pasta masterclass, including the fabulous ravioli with courgette flowers and ricotta.

It’s simple to claim your free issues…

  • Go to jamiemagazine.com/holdon14
  • Click on the View in iTunes button
  • Click on the Free button to install the magazine’s container app.
  • Open the container app and enter the code HOLDON14 in the voucher tab.

And if you like what you see, you can subscribe to the digital magazine – voted Launch of the Year at last year’s Digital Media Awards – for just £29.99 a year, a saving of 25%.

The free-issues offer ends Wednesday so why not take a look – and pray for an Indian summer.

Offer is available worldwide, though users in the USA & Canada should visit jamiemagazine.com/summer14, where they can access a version of the offer featuring a bespoke edition of the magazine with recipes converted into North American imperial and cup measurements. Offer closes at 2159hrs on Wednesday 27 August.

Three Premiere League clubs have teamed up with Jamie’s Ministry of Food to start cookery lessons at their stadiums this September.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Sunderland have all joined a scheme funded by the Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery to teach kids and their parents to cook delicious, nutritious home food.

The Ministry of Food has been working with the teams all summer to coach staff in cooking and teaching in the kitchen. Each club is taking a different approach, but all will include hands on lessons to give children the skills they will need to feed themselves well in later life.

cooking lessons

In Manchester, City In The Community staff will be taking their newfound cooking knowledge to primary school children and their parents as part of their Strike A Balance programme.

Arsenal In The Community will be taking cooking classes to local secondary schools and community groups as part of their ‘Healthy Styles’ programme.

In Sunderland, five members of the Foundation of Light community programme will begin Ministry of Food cooking classes for parents as part of their family learning initiatives in primary schools.

Jamie Oliver said: “I really believe that the combination of knowing how to cook and being more active is the route to a long and healthy life. I am excited that we are making this connection through our work with football clubs and hope it is the start of something that keeps growing.”

Starting on Saturday, the Times Magazine is running an exclusive serial of recipes from the new book – and this week’s edition also has an exclusive interview with Jamie by the inimitable Caitlin Moran.

We’re not going to spoil the fun by saying what amazing recipes are included, but we think that you really need to get down to your local newsagent and pick up a copy to read over breakfast, because this book might just be Jamie’s best yet.

It’s all about the dishes that are close to your heart, that put a smile on your face and make you feel happy, loved, safe and secure. The 100 new recipes are inspired by everything from childhood memories to the changing of the seasons, and take into account the guilty pleasures and sweet indulgences that everyone enjoys. It’s brimming with exciting dishes you’ll fall in love with.

If you live in the UK you can pick up a copy of the Times tomorrow, and the serial continues every Saturday until the release so don’t worry if you miss out on this one!
