Chris Mordue and Ark
Wed 24 Oct 2007
Hi guys,It is not only the apprentices that go on to do great and wonderful things but very often the staff at Fifteen as well. Chris Mordue worked as a Manager at Fifteen for quite sometime before he embarked on a career working as a counsellor for the organisation called Ark. I caught up with Chris last week and he explained to me how he is still involved with Fifteen with the work that he is currently engaged in at the Ark.
All the best
Danny
You recently came back to Fifteen to give some seminars on drug and alcohol awareness. Can you tell me a little bit about this?
After I left Fifteen where I worked as Manager, I began working for an organisation called the Ark. The Ark is part of Hospitality Action, the benevolent charity that was set up 170 years ago to support the Hospitality industry and it is supported by top people in the industry such as Jamie and Heston Blumenthal. Through the Ark Foundation we provide alcohol and drug awareness seminars and education for the Hospitality industry. The Ark was set up by Peter Kay and Michael Quinn in 2000 and since then we have delivered over 4,000 seminars nationwide.
My passion for the Ark and the work that I do for them comes from the fact that I received support from the Ark as a Fifteen employee and it is a great honour for me to train the management, staff and apprentices now that I have left. I believe strongly in the work and feel that it is essential in addressing the issues involved in drug and alcohol abuse in the Hospitality industry. Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine are supporting us through a year long campaign which aims to raise awareness and support those with a problem.
I think that it is really fantastic that Fifteen are leading the way and showing tangible support to the charity while receiving the benefits of the work.
Thanks Chris, great work!!
