Mackerel does it have to taste and smell really bad?

Mackerel is full of those fatty acids and oils that kids need to grow really clever.
But it stinks and tastes really bad.
Do any of you know ways of cooking it, to stop it tasting and smelling like mackerel?
Should this be in the recipe swap bit?
I mean can we cook it to make it taste like chicken or cod?

I like it smoked with a salad... or I might make a fish pate out of it to spread on lightly toasted bread...

or cooked like sardines on the barbie in the summer... loads of herbs, loads of lemon....  tongue  and loads of beer - but dont use it as a mouthwash Abdullah....

abdullahcohn - take it back to the place you bought it and demand it fresh. Fresh mackerel should just smell of the sea - if it smells fishy, then it ain't fresh.

Hi Abdullacohn
Make sure its fresh, then put it in a baking dish salt and pepper, slice red onion into rings, seperate and place on the fish use a little chilli dried or fresh according to your taste drizzle with lemon oil cover with foil and cook for 6-10 mins gas 5 or adapt according to the size of the fish serve with rice add fresh parsley and lemon juice.

Enjoy
