Wheat intolerance

I went for an allergy and intolerance test yesterday - really interesting.  I had been feeling sluggish and rather bloated.

No I am not intolerant to white or red wine but my main intolerance was WHEAT.  So I now need to cut out wheat products - bread, cakes, biscuits and anything which contains wheat - of which there are many items.

Anyone else in the same boat and any tips please smile

This might be interesting to you.
I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice. Good luck in adapting to your new lifestyle. It might be tough at first but I imagine once you get your head around the good and bad points it'll be okay.

Re: Wheat intolerance

Thanks ACDC - I walked round the supermarket this afternoon and wow what a number of items I had to pass buy.  I chose to go for this intolerance test and paid for it as I always felt tired and bloated.

Will have a look at this! smile

Re: Wheat intolerance

Mariel - I cook gluten and wheat free for my husband and youngest daughter (and also live near your neck of the woods!!), so I know what you're going through.  If you have a look at the Gluten-Free thread over on Recipes you'll find loads of tips and recipes - also, ,most of the recipes posted on my blog here are wheat and gluten-free.  If you'd like, you can also e-mail me through the site.

It seems hard at first, but I promise you it will get easier  big_smile

Re: Wheat intolerance

Thanks so much Olivia - I will try to have a look thro the recipes on the blog later that are what and gluten-free and get back to you.  I went for a food intolerance test as I have a good friend who did that a few years ago because she was lethargic and bloated - I have felt the same and always meant to find time to do the test.  It showed I had a high wheat intolerance and it should be cut out altogether - so presently looking at my bread bin and thinking my husband will have to empty that.  Also went round M and S Food yesterday in Elgin and it was surprising what I had to bypass.  Managed to get my hands on some wheat free oatcakes today from MacLeans Bakery in Forres.  At present I am promising myself I will be strict so hope I can see it thro!!!

White Rabbit - again I will have a look at this this evening - thanks so much smile  smile

Re: Wheat intolerance

Hi Marie H,
i know how you feel! i've made alot of things without wheat for me, my mum and her friend who cant have milk or oats either!
the hardest thing for me to give up is bread! i found that the Dove wheat free flour really good, i inversted in a breadmaker /(cos i could never get it right in the oven) and you get quite a good loaf!
Also my mum is allergic to processed wheat but can tolerate unrefined wheat like splet flour and italian bread flour, i wouldn't suggest trying this out unless you are sure you wont have a bad reaction.
Can also make a nice crumble topping from ground armolds, chopped mixed nuts and little wheat free flour, use this instead of the normal quantity of flour. good if also allergic to oats!
hope this helps x
