Would anyone like to share Thanksgiving plans or recipes?
Even if we get an invitation to eat out, I'll make some holiday style food to have at home later.
My ideas so far:
Small Roast Turkey Breast
Pumpkin Praline Custard
Pumpkin Custard with Coconut Meringue Topping (?)
Cornbread dressing with Cheddar and Maple Syrup
Cranberry or Lignonberry Relish
Pumpkin Soup

That sounds gorgeous! Wish we had Thanksgiving over here ![]()

We were originally going to spend thankgsiving just the 2 of us at home, but we will be attending a large family gathering instead. But this was my original sketches for thanksgiving you are welcome to:
- turkey breast - seasoned with salt/pepper/cumin/corriander. Seared on the stove top and finished in the oven
- mashed sweet potatoes with butter, cinnamon, and allspice.
- stove top made stuffing - made with rendered pork/fennel sausage, sauteed chicken liver, onions, rice, chicken stock/white wine, and roasted chestnuts.
- roasted carrots and parsnips
- green vegetable (hadn't figured that out yet)
- pumpkin cheesecake
- handwhipped cream

It's just going to be Jim and I this year. Jim went out and ordered a "heritage turkey," any one of an old breed that has not been hybridized to have a breast so big that it can hardly stand and has been raised naturally, to support the local slow food movement here. I've wanted to try one now for the longest time but they are so expensive. It's a slurge, I know, but it's for a good cause.

I've always wanted to try one of those Turduckens.

Here the turkeys in the store are just marginally larger than a chicken unfortunately.
So I have no idea what I'm going to do but I know there will be homemade apple pie!

Thanks for this thread. Keep the recipes / ideas coming, as some of us will be doing a thanksgiving theme on the Weekly Cooking Challenge on the forums later in the month. Alot of us are from countries that do not partake in thanksgiving, so we need all the help we can get to make a thanksgiving dish.

Koukouvagia, lovely ideas, I bet your stuffing is out of this world good. You reminded me to get some whipping cream.
Eddie, that bird will probably be the best ever, let us know your meal it turns out.
Lately, I've been making small batches of cranberry relish to try various combinations.

Cranberry Relish
Fresh Cranberries
Blood Orange Juice
Light Brown Sugar
Cinnamon Stick
Season the berries with a small amount of blood orange juice, brown sugar to taste and cinnamon stick, boil until the berries break apart and the liquid forms a thin syrup.

Great thread!
Drink as a starter: Warm apple drink with vanilla vodka (This is a drink recipe made by a Swedish chef called Tina Nordström. And - the drink is awsome! Try it...)
1000 ml of apple juice
3 tbsp honey
5 cloves
1 vanilla pod
2 cinnamon sticks
300-400 ml vanilla vodka
Heat up the juice in a sauce pan together with the honey and spices. Let it stand for about 10 minutes before you add the vodka. Let it simmer slowly - don't let it boil! If you want a stronger drink, just add more vodka. And if you want an alcoholfree drink - just exclude the vodka.
Menu:
Roast turkey
Ovenbaked pumpkin with red chillies
Boiled wild rice
Brussel sprouts with ginger, lime and hazelnuts sprinkled on top
Cranberry Chutney
Apple pie with vanilla sauce as dessert
I posted the recipe for cranberry chutney on Foodwise the other day, and it is a perfect chutney to turkey.
