Dried Banana chips
I bought some today at my local supermarket. I was wondering if anyone knows if they are 1/2 good for you or is it like eating candy?

Re: Dried Banana chips
I don't think they have added sugar, so it is just the sweetness of the natural banana.... which is pretty sweet.
i don't like them, my favourite is dried banana, the chewy ones that are so completely yum.... and very sweet too! ![]()

Re: Dried Banana chips
Hi Joy! I don't think I have even seen the softer ones. They have a sheen to them so I was kind of wondering if they were, gasp, deep fried?
I did buy bulk so there was no nutritional value to read...
How's your summer going? ![]()

Re: Dried Banana chips
hi bcrain ![]()
you're right...the crunchy little banana chips are often deep fried and some are treated with sugar syrup as well or even sweetners (check the packet).....some have just been freeze dried without sugar which makes them a little healthier but they tend to taste a bit bland
i know the ones that Joy is talking about...they're dehydrated banana slices/whole bananas which are brown in colour and chewy...they don't look particularly appetising but they do taste yummy ![]()

Re: Dried Banana chips
O Good Info Allora!
I always thought the banana chips tasted plasticy, so I was surprised when I found they were a traditional Keralan food. I do know lots of people who love them though!
These might be worth trying! (When you have got through your packet)

I found this picture of the dried ones I like:

They sell them everywhere (by which I mean - even in supermarkets!) but I get lovely fresh ones from the fruit and nut shop up the road.
It is a lovely summer day here today BC! I would love to whisk you over here to enjoy it! ![]()

Re: Dried Banana chips
Hi everyone!
Thanks for that info... I'll look next time I go. It's my health nut hubby who is munching away at them
I see what you mean when you say the dried ones don't look "appealing" (pardon the pun)
Yeah, as you can see I do laugh at my own jokes
even if they are bad!
Would LOVE to be whisked away to Australia Joy! I think I'm still in vacation mode ![]()

Just need to find that magic carpet.
Very funny pun!
You are right, they must be one of the most disgusting looking foods ever.

If you like muesli or fruit crumbles, you can pulse them in a blitzer & incorporate them instead of being tempted to add sugar

Re: Dried Banana chips
They are *way* too sweet for me but, then, I'm weird. Am allergic to chocolate and loathe all desserts apart from a fresh piece of summer fruit or poached pears in Winter.
Did make ice cream using glace ginger around Christmas. It was tolerable ![]()
