Toasted Sandwich Filling

A few issues back Jamie Mag had Toasted Sandwich ideas.
Perhaps we could share some ideas. Crazy ones and seriously nice.
My youth-full after hours ones had pork pies and cheese and more in them. Ghandis Fridge Sandwich was legend.
Now grown up, I did a croque-monsieur with chicken on Boxing day (Jamie's Mag) it was the best.
Leftover take away curry in flatbread toastie is the best way to use up the great British take away curry excess.
I think the toasted Sandwich maker is right on up there with the wheel and the dishwasher, when it comes to inventions.

Re: Toasted Sandwich Filling

I still love cheese , onion and tomato.

I don't like the toasted sandwich makers , I hate te way they squash the bread into little triangles with tough edges.

I have a pannini maker that I use sometimes , this can be adjusted so that it does not squash the sandwich , just toasting it and and melting the filling.
Otherwise I toast them om a griddle or heay bottom fry pan.

Re: Toasted Sandwich Filling

On the flatbread idea, I have a few to throw into the equation.

Cyprus style, Halloumi and Lountza (cured pork loin) in a pitta and toasted. Halloumi with finely chopped onion and parsley in a pitta.

Arabic style, it has to be Arayes, basically minced up meat finely chopped up with parsley, chilli and some spicing, I think it's cumin. All spread thinly inside a split Lebanese pitta and toasted. It's almost like a Quesadilla.

On the Mexican front it has to be Quesadillas or one of my all time favorites, the Flaoutas.

I remember from my schooldays we used to get what was basically a Jam Sandwich dipped in Batter and served with Custard.

Baked beans and cheese..though you must have a toaster that seals the edges..

..and let it cool for 2 minutes before eating. (Unless you enjoy blisters on the roof of your mouth.. mad
