Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

Good thinking Mummza.

I have just been flailing under the load of a community group in crisis. We are working it out but it is taking every bit of energy I have (which isn't much unfortunately!).

It means that at the moment my meals are whatever is quickest and easiest. How I wish I could be having the fun of making a Winter picnic feast today. But I am going to cross it off my list of possibilities and hope that next month I can do our Cool 1st Day wonderful thing!

(But there is always the chance that tomorrow a picnic shaped space will enter my day and I can do it!) crossed

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

Well, I'm a day late (had to work yesterday) but better late than never. Here's what I'm up to today. Some may not be strictly "preserves" but I'm taking my usual "liberal" interpretation:

Caramelised onions (Frizz's recipe done in the slow cooker);

Orange marmalade;

Pickled octopus;

Tapenade;

Herbed olives;

Herbed feta;

Moroccan preserved lemons (I use heaps of them);

Lemon curd.

Some I will keep. Others I'll give as gifts.

Happy "preserving", everyone.

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

I bought the limes to make some lime curd ( like lemon curd only using limes) but discovered that there were no farm eggs left so I ill be a day of two late making this challange .
I did however make a bit of plum jam .

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

Good idea about making preserved lemons Maree, I have been thnking about doing that but never seem to get round to it.

I am planning to make some flavoured olive oil as christmas gifts this year but I think that needs to be done nearer to christmas.

Mummza, from memory, I think flavoured oils (h/m) do only last a month or so. Good idea. Must start asking friends and family to start saving bottles for me, too. I don't use many, myself.

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

I'm still struggling with my commitments: but for the last time! I am in the middle of writing my resignation letter to the community organisation I have been involved in.

But I did a form of preserving yesterday. Because I am avoiding sugar I am not using tomato sauce (in the ketchup style). But I made a big pot of arrabiata sauce, cooked quite thick and then frozen in portions so I could bring one out when I need something to substitute for tomato sauce.   smile

Maree I am SO impressed with all you did!  clap

And cheers for glace fruit Coco!
I hope the eggs arrive soon Mummza!
