Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

Ok 1st August .. Picnic food ( weather so bad it might have to be an indoor picnic here !) ...it's done nothing but rain for weeks , drowned the plants   Wrecked the lavender , but on the bright side I havnt had to fill the birdbath in the garden once yet this summer and we have managed just one BBQ
Or we are told its summer , some days it's more like autumn .

So picnic food ( indoor or outdoor !!!!)

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

It was raining here and I was still going to do picnic food for an indoor picnic .
Was going to do some little tortilla , baked in those silicone cupcake moulds .but on starting to get these organised , I cracked the farm egg into a bowl and to my horror it was black and and stinking inside .. A real rotting egg ... puke .. The smell was awful !
All I can think of is that the egg had has a hairline crack in it , not enough to make the egg leak but just enough to cause the egg to rot .
Yuck !

That idea was gone and so was I from the kitchen and house till the majority of the stench left the house.

Then I had a text message and needed to go to a friend who had had some awful news.

And that was the end of my picnic !

I was going to cook ..
Little Spanish tortilla's.
Quinola and roasted vegetable salad
Flat breads
Pokoras
Onion bhajee
Green salad
Sour cream dip with cummin in it
Chunks of lemon and lime.

O my giddy aunt,
I forgot again too.
It will be a winter picnic here, but I will think about it and just be a day or two late!

Winter picnic here, too. Will have to think about it. My home has a "revolving door" at the moment. I'm giddy.

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

A winter picnic for me would be a thermos flask of delicious home made soup , chunks of crusty fresh made bread .

Or something like a curry in a food flask with a few pokoras and a flatbread of some kind.

Would custard be ok in a food flask ..(. I have never tried it ) ,
I think cake and custard would be warming as well ..  Even if it is a bit reminisant of school dinners in the 60's !

Trips out taking thermos flasks full of warming treats .. Yes that's a good winter picnic. !

Re: Wouldn't it be cool?

Good thinking Mummza.

I have just been flailing under the load of a community group in crisis. We are working it out but it is taking every bit of energy I have (which isn't much unfortunately!).

It means that at the moment my meals are whatever is quickest and easiest. How I wish I could be having the fun of making a Winter picnic feast today. But I am going to cross it off my list of possibilities and hope that next month I can do our Cool 1st Day wonderful thing!

(But there is always the chance that tomorrow a picnic shaped space will enter my day and I can do it!) crossed
