Re: Cake Balls
As far as I know cake balls are Cake pops without the stick
http://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=isch … l0.cfis.1.
sort of like a bite sized ball of cake that has been iced / dipped in chocolate and some are then decorated.
Fun , but a bt of a fiddle to do I think crumbed cake stuck together with something and then reformed as balls as far as I am aware.
I have not made them myself .
Think one of my daughters was planning to have a go at making some soon.

Re: Cake Balls
We used to get 'rum balls' from The Watergate Bakery' when I was in college, because they were one of the cheap items - made up of leftover cake crumbs. It wasn't a very trendy or fashionable thing then, it was a budget thing and you did kind of wonder what was in them, but the rum made it good.

Re: Cake Balls
one can get seriously addicted to rum-flavored stuff though. even if you know it is a leftover from bitten pieces of pie crusts...

Re: Cake Balls
Welcome Cakeballhead!
I've heard of cake balls, but never had one. They seem really sweet to me, and I'm not a big fan of super sweet desserts. I'd try one if someone gave it to me, but probably would not buy or make them myself.
Now, if you soak it in rum like the previous posters mentioned, I'd probably go for that. ![]()

Re: Cake Balls
I tasted them at a wedding, they were made with a typical chocolate/orange flavoured cake. The cake once cooked was broken up, mixed with chocolate frosting, rolled into balls then ..once dry they were covered in black chocolate then decorated with white icing....not difficult to guess the recipe.
Not over sweet due to the black chocolate and orange flavour.
