What do you do when you in shock and scared?
Hi guys,
Had such a bad week! On Tuesday/Wednesday we had a house burglary and it was such a shock to my system! For 2 nights afterwards I did not really have supper because I was in alot of shock! I am being a real baby because I have been so scared at night! They took all 3 computers and our TV as well as some more bits and bobs. Thank goodness we did not wake up!
I have been going to a friend that runs LifeLine in Rustenburg for counciling.
What do you do if you have had a burglary or something that is traumatic?

I am sorry that happened to you, Rebecca. Make sure your house is secure so you will feel secure. Counciling is a wonderful idea. Keep family and friends around you for support and most of all please take care of yourself.

I will, unfortunatly we cannot control the burglarys. We live on a farm which means we have to keep very tight security!

Yeah, you best get over things by talking them out with family and friends. It must be horrible, hope you get through the shock soon.

I'm sorry that happened to your family. It's good that you live with your family and can talk to a counsellor. Perhaps there are things local law enforcement can suggest that would help secure the farm more and of course, always keep their number as a pre-set, speed-dial on your cell phones and let neighbors know to keep a look out, if that is applicable. I think I would be tempted to get a couple of very big dogs! The dogs may not be able to defend you, but they will make you feel better.

Oh dear Rebecca, its horrible when you are burgled ,it leaves you very nrevey for a while but you do start to relax again after a while.
In a way its a bit like greiving you have the initial shock , the upset, the anger and you go through it all .
you will find that you go arund stashing little procious items for a while , putting them places where you hope that they will not be found 'just in case' it ever happens again.
For months ,after we were burgled , I found that any little sound would wake me up at night for a while and my poor darling had to make endless trips around the house in the middle of the night .. there never was any real problem but I was always convinced that I heard a real noise coming from downstairs !
Its not an easy time , but it does get easier .. it really does .

Thank you all so much for the messages! We have 2 dogs that sleep in the office but when we got to them in the morning they were not as awake as that they usually are. We think that they sprayed something under the door! It is a very scary time but luckily I have school to distract me! You are right I am very lucky to have this 'friend' that is also a counselor. Thank goodness they did not come through to our side of the house that we were in!
I am afraid to say @MsPablo that the security in South Africa is not very good!
You right @Mummza it does get easier! You get nights where you just cant fall asleep! I had one of those last night!
At some times I look at it in a funny perspective! Why would they want to take a box of rooibos tea!

oh dajun Rebecca. That is nasty. i have had burglars in the basement and I was just PISSED. I felt so angry at them. I dont remember being shocked, more like vicious.
I would complain, get on the nerves of those investigating, not give up, nag, nag, nag, and if you dont catch them, the heck with them. at least youŽll get to pour it out. donŽt give up, search for your stuff, spread the news, tell everyone you know. it is a chain, and the noose will pull in. of course, punching them would be the most satisfying.
nah, dont follow my bad example. I am just an ill-behaved punk. leave it to the police. but get on their nerves or they wont do anything

I think you have a very good point @RedfordEstonia, you do kind of want to go into fight mode! But getting on the polices nerves is a very good idea especially in S.A!
