Falk Culinair or Mauviel Copper Cookware?

I have finally persuaded hubby to invest in copper cookware for our kitchen and been looking at these two brands which look quite similar in quality.

I am leaning slightly towards Falk as it looks slightly more commercial and is available directly from the manufacturer.  Plus at the moment they have a new year's sale on their website, which would save some pennies.

If anyone has used either for a while and could share their experience it would be much appreciated.

CJ.

Welcome to the forum cjenkins  smile

I'm sorry I can't help you as I don't have copper pans .
I do have an Indian copper dish for cooking but that has no makers mark on it and the type of dish I have is hand made I understand.

Hope someone else can help you.

Re: Falk Culinair or Mauviel Copper Cookware?

I purchased Falk copperware in 2007 to replace the stainless clad cookware I had used for years. Sauce pans, Saucières, saute' pans, frying pans, casseroles, rondo, stock pot and roasting pan.

Falk had discontinued their "Chef's" (windsor) pan by the time I decided to add these to my set, so I purchased Mauviel 2.5mm 1 & 3 quart stainless lined windsor pans.

The first thing I noticed when changing over to using was that the pans heat much faster than what I was use to and food cooks faster, so there is a period of transition when learning to cook with copper cookware, second was a reduction in the gas bill, roughly costing 1/3 (one/third) what it had before.

Personally, I do not feel there is any significant difference in quality between the two. Falk developed the process for bonding stainless to copper, as of a couple years ago all stainless-clad copper cookware was manufactured using Falk's patented bi-metal material.

Personally I prefer Falk for the satin finish on their pots and pans. As I cook two or three times a day, I got over polishing the exterior of the cookware really fast and after years of constant use I feel the patina the Falk has developed is more appealing than the that of the Mauviel.

Whichever company's cookware you decide is right for your taste (personal taste is in my opinion what the choice comes down to) I can't help but feel you'll get many years of joyful use from this equipment.

Reading this with interest. My sister recently found a set of gorgeous copper saucepans, never used, IN THE LOCAL OPSHOP! Best bargain ever!

Joy, did she buy a lottery ticket? What a windfall. (Guess she won a lottery just to find them).

I've not heard of the first brand but I've heard good things about the second brand. Sorry, not much help, am I?

I've not bought copper cookware for several reasons:

•I'm happy with my copper-based stainless steel pans and cast-iron pans;

•The price;

•The cleaning of them and general maintenance;

•None of my kitchens have been able to display/hang pots and pans.

They are gorgeous and covetable though, aren't they wink ?

Thanks for the replies, especially from Anthony.

I bought a pan each from Falk directly and a Mauviel one off Amazon.  I liked the matte finish of the Falk one and as the Mauviel pan has a defect returned this for a refund.

We don't have gas, but definitely notice a difference in the way this heats up on our electric hob and the even distribution of heat.

Hi, I just read this post and good to know a lot of people are switching to copper which I consider the best tool for cooking. I am personally a pretty good collector of copper cookware, and a chef for my parties...I have different models and brands and I usually love to buy copper in European markets when I go to visit France or Italy. Also, i just discover this brand, Amoretti Brothers www.amorettibrothers.com , which is amazingly beautiful... I saw the cookware during my last trip to New York...I saw some pans at Dean & Deluca and felt in love immediately. I bought a pan, I tried and it looks great on my fires as well on the table. Great to know new companies are making great products in copper!

Hi, well done...!   Without doubt copper kitchenware is the way to go.
It takes a little getting used to as the conductivity is so fast both heating and cooling.
Copper utensils are a super investment but don't be overwhelmed by the big manufacturers - remember they are piling in lots of money toward international marketing costs and the Customers will ultimately be paying for that.
I suggest you look at www.frenchcopperutensils.co.uk
Lots of assistance, advice, recipes, care of plus new, used, vintage and antique items. They specialise in copper, worth a look..?
Bonne chance...
