How do you make Yorkshire Pudding?

I live in America, and I've heard about Yorkshire Pudding many, many times.  Now however, I want to make it, so I'm looking for recipes - anything you've got.

Ah... Jamie has a fantastic recipe and it works every time.


Huge Yorkshire Puddings

1/2 pint (285 millilitres) milk
4 ounces (115 grams) all-purpose flour
Pinch salt
3 eggs
Vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Mix the batter ingredients together. Let rest for 10 minutes
Preheat a Yorkshire pudding tray or muffin tin with 1/2-inch (1 centimetre) of oil in each section. After the 10 minutes divide the batter into the tray. Cook for around 15 to 20 minutes until crisp and puffy, don't open the oven door before then or they won't rise.
Yield: 8 to 10 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Inactive Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

I make these most times we have roast beef and my kids and step kids eye each other off for them... if they are too slow... they are gone cos someone else will have stolen it and eaten it.....   Serve one per plate and use it to mop up the gravy from the roast.

gregandjanine thanks for that recipe.. i love yorkshire pudding.. i will have do up a roast soon so i can try it out.

there is nothing as gooood as a good yorkshire.. and nothing sooooo bad as an awefull one... if i get a bad one at a restaurant it pretty well ruins my meal no matter how good the rest of the food may be.  sad

Hello, I'm from England but live in Greece.  Here is the recipe I use all the time for yorkshire pudding.


                        100g(4.oz) plain (all purpose) flour
                         1 egg
                        1 quarter pint  each of water & milk
                         oil for tin ( I don't use olive)
                         pinch of salt



                         Put some oil in tin and heat until very hot.  I heat mine
                         200C.  Meanwhile mix all ingredients in a bowl until no
                          lumps, then pour into the tin.  Bake 30mins.  If you like
                          you can put the batter in the fridge for 30mins before
                          putting in the tin.  This works everytime for me.  I hope
                          you  like it.  It is a very tradional dish in England
                          usually eaten on a Sunday but yesterday I made it and
                          gobbled it all up! thumbsup Valeriea.

I never follow a recioe when I make yorkshire pudding, I just make it by the look and feel of the batter. The batter that I make is a little bit thicker than a pancake batter.
The key things that I always do are...to use plain flour, whole milk and plenty of eggs. i keep seasoning quite light.
Always rest the batter for a good 1/2 hour in the fridge. This will chill the batter.
Always heat a little fat in the cooking tins untill it is realy hot.
Have a very hot oven and pour the batter straight from the fridge into the preheated trays as quickly as you can,and retern the tray to the oven immediatly.
Cook the yorkshires at a high heat and do not be tempted to peep in the oven to see how they are cooking!

My yorkies were always hit and miss, more hockey pucks than I care to admit to, but Jamie's recipe has never failed me.  It seems like a lot of oil in the pan, but they don't get greasy, and like mummza says, super hot and do not peep.
