Dieting and a soup recipe

Hey there,
I just recently started getting into cooking. Being a 23 yr old musician I have tended to eat really rubbish stuff for quickness but I really want to change my culinary skills plus lose a few pounds! What kinda recipes do you think I should begin with?

p.s I created my first ever soup tonight, and it was fantastic;

Healing Sunday Soup (serves 4)
3 toms cut finely
3 shallots cut finely
1 garlic clove cut finely
handful of sugar snaps
2 portions of Sharwoods rice noodles
2 and a half veggie stock cubes.

Add the toms, shallots, garlic and sugar snaps to a frying pan and cook in a little water till they soften slightly. Then add to pan of about a litre of hot water (in which you have already added the stock cubes, which have dissolved). Put a lid on the pan and leave to simmer gently for about 10 mins, then add the noodles and recover for 5 mins. Then serve immediately.
