Man Chops Off His Penis In Restaurant
Updated: 11:11, Tuesday April 24, 2007

A man is in hospital after chopping off his penis in a busy London restaurant.

Zizzi's restaurant, LondonHorrified diners watched as the man grabbed a large kitchen knife and lopped off his manhood.

It happened at Zizzi's pizza restaurant in the Strand, in the capital's West End theatre heartland.

Sales rep Stuart McMahon, who was eating at the restaurant with his girlfriend, told The Sun: "This guy came running in then charged into the kitchen, got a massive knife and started waving it about.

"Everyone was screaming and running out as he jumped on a table, dropped his trousers and popped his penis out.

"Then he cut it off. I couldn't believe it."

The Sun said police rescued the organ and packed it in ice.

Doctors at St Thomas's hospital tried to reattach it but the hospital refused to say if the operation was a success. The man's condition is stable.

Zizzi's restaurant said "It all happened in a matter of seconds and was obviously extremely frightening and distressing for the many customers and staff in the restaurant at the time.

"The manager was able to lead customers and staff up the stairs and out of the restaurant to safety, and a 999 call was made to alert the emergency services".

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said the man - who has not been named - was aged between 30-40.
