My children said that they know what mood I am in by whats for dinner.
Happy - I bake cakes and do spag bol for tea !!.
Sad - pastry or cookies
Indulgent - chips !!!!!!
family mum - curry
good mum - roast
thought full - jam/chutney or fudge/toffee - pot luck for tea
bad mood - bread !!!! - shepherds pie for tea
Apparently I go over board and fill tins / freeze until I am "over it".
What do you cook - when and why ????

Aaah that's so sweet that they've noticed that
I'm exactly the same, when I'm happy I just want to stay in the kitchen baking and making preserves, when I'm sad or angry about something I want comforting foods, these kinds of meals usually involve mashed potatoes or roast potatoes and a roast joint of meat slowly cooked. When I'm ill I go mad for veggies, vegetable soup and big bowls of fruit ![]()

I don't so much cook to my mood - although I do tend to get very indulgent when I'm happy (mostly, I hope), but I do hear an inner voice sometimes whispering, "eat fish" or, "salad tonight" or, "steak and chips and nothing else will do".
Is this common?

i always cook to my mood and my boyf hates it! I'll plan a week full of meals and then come home and need something particular. i think that's good though, i always feel like my food has nourished me in a way that is deeper than nutrition alone. ![]()

For sure. If I am relaxed and happy I will camp out in the kitchen and make something involved and elaborate. If I'm not in such a good mood, cereal out of the box might be on the menu! If it's feeding frenzy week at my house, ehem - women, you know what I mean - It could be anything from chocolate to sardines!
I love the way food can rule our emotions and have an interesting post about comfort foods going on right now on Swigs and Grinds. It's fun to see what is considered comforting to other people!
Happy Cooking,
H

I am a bit like this - and if I try to go against that little inner cook whispering, it never works out!

I do the same thing too.... have everything all planned out and then when that day comes around, I don't feel like it and cook something totally different.....

Yes I do, in the dumps I cook comfort food...
When I'm well rested I bake, I dont really like doing it but when I do I go all out.
If I have read something in a newspaper or magazine or watched a show, I will want to try the same thing whenever I get the chance.
Sometimes I will make stuff spur of the moment too... when I'm mad I dont really want to cook but if I'm in the middle of something I have to remind myself that since I know I'm in a bad mood I better snap out of it otherwise the meal will taste gross.

I don't necessarily cook to my mood, but I tend to cook what I feel like eating. I don't know if that's what you mean or not. Sometimes I feel like I can hear my body telling me, "Stop eating so much of . . ." or "Need more of. . ."

I tend to cook on the spur of the moment, wake up in the morning and take something out to thaw for that evening, then put it in the fridge for the next night and cook something entirely different.
It all depends on how much time I have to make dinner and what's on special when I go to the shops. Sometimes I see something that we haven't had in quite a while and get it because once I've seen it then that is what I want for dinner. ![]()
