Happy Australia Day 26th January.

Happy Australia day guys.!!!

Burnie had their celebrations on Sunday with a foreshore Fiesta and then people headed down onto the beach, including us. smile

We ate barbequed lamb burgers and sausages with onions and sauce, sat back in the sun and enjoyed the live bands and various other displays. thumbsup

Re: Happy Australia Day 26th January.

We are have the local Australia Day celebrations in our town this year (we take it in turns, year about between the bigger town of Mudgee and ourselves).  There are usually some stalls, polo cross games (one of the local girls is a member of the Aussie team), rides for the kids, some singers and an Australian Citizenship ceremony for the people who have migrated and have decided to become Aussie citizens. At night there are fireworks.

Not a big do but usually well patronised by the locals.

Happy Australia Day everybody thumbsup Have a bewdy bonza day lol  lol  lol

Re: Happy Australia Day 26th January.

Some nice Food Heroes in the Australia Day Awards:

The Senior Australian of the Year 2010 is cook and restaurateur Maggie Beer of Nurioopta, South Australia. Maggie Beer is an Australian culinary icon. She and her husband, Colin, ran the famed Pheasant Farm Restaurant, before Maggie opened an export kitchen for the production of preservative-free gourmet foods. In 1999, she opened Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop and went on to co-host the ABC cooking program, The Cook and the Chef.  Maggie hopes that through sharing her love of food she will inspire Australians to reconnect with food and appreciate what we eat.

Australia’s Local Hero 2010 is food rescuer Ronni Kahn of Bronte, New South Wales. In 2004, Ronni created OzHarvest to collect surplus food from restaurants, cafes and events and deliver it to charities. OzHarvest now has over 600 food donors and delivers more than 110,000 meals each month to 163 charities in Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong and continues to expand. With Ronni’s guidance, OzHarvest has had a profound impact on the environment, saving thousands of tonnes of food from landfill and helping clients of charities to eat quality, nutritious food.

That is very impressive Joy. What great work they are doing.

Happy Australia Day to all aussies in the world, wherever you are I hope you get to celebrate it in your own style! I usually bake aussie treats, but dietary restrictions this year mean I can't enjoy them myself. Might just have to play aussie songs and have a bit of a singing session. Aussie karaoke anyone?  Khe Sanh? Leaps & bounds?  big_smile
