After holidaying in Cairns recently, I have a liking towards Dragonfruit. It is from a Cactus with a vine like habit, originally from South America/Mexico, but Asia is its main hub. Three varieties are available Yellow, Red and White Flesh. Awesome in fruit salad use a melon baller. They look like and have the texture of Kiwifruit, the vibrant red flesh looks awesome against the Green Kiwifruit, with the white fleshed and the yellow. Great with good Vanilla Ice cream.

I dont think enough people cook with hearts of palm. theyre so zingy and delicious ive made a puree with them with artichokes and chickpeas, almost Hummus style. but honestly theyre so good just by themselves.and people dont really use bitter melon,or have even tasted it for that matter. I dont blame them though theyre not that easy to come by. I'm jealous of Jamies Garden! I grew my own tomatoes this summer, they grew taller than me, but my landlord killed them both haha......when i finally buy a house of my own it'll be better.
Love the Xmas special you did jamie!

Alexadras, I finaly got the knowledge and courage to source and eat them. Horid! Best forgotten. That said , I did not try the root. Picking wild roots without the landowners permision is ilegal.
Rock Samphire is another one I would not rush towards.
Marsh Samphire Rocks!
mmm a bit confusing I am glad to see that Marsh Samphire is becoming popular again.
There are a few foraging delights still for me to discover, many were at one time, more popular than now. Pig Nuts?

Two things I love that most people don't eat much anymore: Lima beans and Patty Pan squash. My mother makes the best squash cake in the world. I like to cook my limas with pork chops....sooo good.
Patty Pan, are cool. I remember buying them of a market a few years back.

I think the world needs to rediscover traditional foods. These are foods that are often ecological sound, Perenials/trees are all worth investigating. Radio 4 did an amazing program on such, if I find it I will post it.
Face it our grandparents had some quality foods. A new jamie show perhaps, on old school foods? "Jamie Goes back in time"
Not just veg either Old Spot Pigs Bueford Brown eggs. Quality first!

Do you mean "Alexanders"?............I use them. It's all about how you deal with them, whether you like the taste & what you put with them.
Do you use "Fat Hen"? or "Good King Henry"?
