garden planning
I'm a week or two later than I ought to be to be just thinking of this in my area, but I want to do better this year planning my garden in advance... plotting out everything. Can anyone recommend a good online or on the pc program for me to use in doing this?

Re: garden planning
I hope someone can give you a link to a good program FSMom.
I just want to put a reminder about permaculture principles if you are laying in more than a seasonal garden. (and haven't already incorporated it!)
I loved the consultation my sister got with a permaculture specialist (it was David Holmgren - who came up with the theory). He took such note of the property and spoke to her about the different things she wanted to plant, and looked at how they could make the most use of the site, and interact with each other, and look at what things need to be established, and how that would work in with seasonal things.
I remember that the first thing ended up being sorting out where the fruit trees would go, and getting them established.

Gosh..........use a computer program? Not me, I'm not clever enough!
I use a 3-year crop rotation system in the garden to ensure good plant health & use manure/comfrey accordingly, but other than that I plant what I want, where I want it.
I am just about to construct 2 raised beds (8'x4', & 16" deep) for ease of cultivating kitchen herbs in one & salads in the other, on top of that I have a permanent fruit area of around 20'x20', & 3 veg beds. Medicinal herbs are grown in the flower borders with everything else.

I hand designed my flower garden on paper when it was destroyed, i loved help from the net while placing various plants. Of course the same help is there to help with vegs and herbs.

Re: garden planning
I have sown fruit plants according to the biodinamic calendar today, in a very ordered thoughtfull way, counting the seeds putting them in mild water preparing the little pots, taking note of what was what, using a bought soft terriccio/potting soil, I gathered everything in little boxes I brought home from supermarkets and placed them under a plastic tunnel on a bed kept warm by a huge amount of manure I put underneat .................. all this being clever, methodic, in time with season and calendar made me so
........... like I never felt before when planting or sowing or weeding or even diggin manure in all my orto ............ it's definitely not my way ![]()

Re: garden planning
mada, i have used the calendar to plant garlic and its relatives...onion, shallot, leek, chive, i needed to plant garlic early to protect the strawberries and the whole family was planted at the same time.
First time that i have respected mounting/desending of the moon times...lets see when its time to cultivate ![]()
