I've recently started making my own bread. However every loaf so far has been really heavy. Has any one any tips on how to make a lighter loaf please?

Do you think you could write down the recipe / recipes that you are using for us and also tell us the method that you use to make the bread .
Its a bit difficult to know what is going wrong unill we can see what you are using to make the bread or how you are making it.
It is probably easily fixable once we know .
I use the standard recipe on the flour pack.
500g Bread Flour
1 1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
15ml Olive/Veg Oil
7g Packet Yeast
300ml Warm Water
1.Add flour, salt,yeast and sugar to a large mixing bowl. Add oil and water and mix to form a soft dough.
2.Knead for 10 mins until smooth and elastic.
3.Shape dough on a baking tray or place in a tin, cover and leave to rise for 30-45 mins in a warm place.
4.Bake in a pre heated oven for15 mins at 230. Then reduce the heat to 200 and cook for another 15 mins.
That is it. it tastes nice enough. It is just really dense and heavy.

Its the oil making it heavy, when i do the same recipe the bread is heavier, sounds like a Ciabatta.
Do I just omit the oil or do i need to add something else?
This is the basic everyday recipe, no oil no butter. If you are looking for a smaller loaf, i would just half the portions.

Welcome, i want to start a bread thread as there seems to be many questions, sometimes i make bread by hand, sometimes in the bread machine it depends how much time i have. Good luck.
I don't have the luxury of a bread maker. I'll let you know how my hand made bread turns out tomorrow.
Bread machine, i bought one years ago and loved it, it broke down so i hand made my bread for a few years until a friend gave me hers that she never used. Now i do both.
