Re: Borlotti beans

Dear jelovatt:

Man, talk about missing the point.  It's about the food, not the man's accent.  I watch him from another country and find his accent charming and don't need some speech monitor to tell me or anyone else how things should be said.

And while we're at it, oh language policeperson....

spelt is a type of wheat, 'spelled' is to mis-spell a word, which one doesn't do 'wrongly', one does incorrectly.

Re: Borlotti beans

It is not just Mr Oliver who drops letters when he is speaking , this often happens , It happens on a great many TV shows , including the BBC , it happens on the radio , on films DVD's etc  etc.

The dropping of letters in words is very regional and I do not consider it sloppy speach these days.
Some regions drop t's some drop h's , some regions elongate vowels .
I have found here in Wales that the will say things like cool prunounced as ' cooo-well'
and school as 'scooo- well' as well as dropping some letters or mutiating others.

Does it realy matter as long as the person speaking can be understood.

Re: Borlotti beans

Kerwood, I actually made exactly the same comments as yours but I deleted them as I didn't want to buy further into a flame war.

As Mummza has said, does it really matter so long as we can understand the words spoken?

For me, no.

It is all about the food, surely.
