Christmas Stollen!!!
Okay... here's my Stollen recipe!! I can guarantee it's easy and delicious - just annoyed I waited all these years to make it. My son's been getting favors at college handing it out... and I've already been asked for the recipe twice!!!
There's all sorts of variants and some recipes seem quite complicated! I'm sure it could be improved but it tastes like heaven already!!!
And when I costed the ingredients (all the best quality) it still came out half the price of standard shop bought ones!!
My son's already eyeing it up as a cheap present to make (and impress) his friends and relatives!
Cooking is fun!!

Re: Christmas Stollen!!!
That does look an easy recipe Blueladder , but I think I would put the marzipan in a rope shape inside the dough rather than roll it out . Also I think I would totally cover the marzipan with the dough .
I might get some children I know to have a go at making your recipe.
I have bought the stollen at lidl before and it's been quite good and reasonably priced JerryR , not as expensive as some of the other supermarkets. But I have not looked at the prices this year.
Kye , I like the look of that recipe .

Re: Christmas Stollen!!!
I'm definitely going to try this. I made hot cross buns for the first time this year and another fruity yeasty cake thing would be just up my street! Plus I love marzipan.

Re: Christmas Stollen!!!
I love marzipan too!!! Let me know how you get on please!
With the marzipan I like the sheet as it means apart from the tiny bit at the end you get scummy marzipan in every bite!!!!!
Not covering the marzipan was a worry but it worked out really well when I cooked it (it didn't stick) so it didn't turn out to be a problem - though I would stretch the dough more and leave a smaller gap as there was a little bit at the edges that didn't have any marzipan in it! Oh no!!!!!
I'm going to try almond croissants next as I saw they cost 70p each!!!!!! in my local Tesco. Outrageous...
What are you cooking?

Re: Christmas Stollen!!!
yes I see why you liked to roll the marzipan into a flat oblong. Why dont you try rolling the dough in 2 sections and making like a marzipan sandwich with it , that might protect the marzipan more and might be easier than trying to stretch the dough over the marzipan.

Re: Christmas Stollen!!!
So next try is ....
Croissants with almonds..they are sold as day left overs, otherwise they dont exist...same as pain au chocolat. Their topping is a mix of frangipane and sliced almonds.
Frangipane :
- 150 g de sugar
- 2 eggs
- 150 g crushed almonds
