lol... I stopped after laughing at some of the psuedo-science, although I will be fair and say that they got a few things right, some of the stuff about dialectric heating for example.

I have an Electrolux microwave/grill which is well over 12 years old. I've noticed recently that the outer case gets very hot during the cooking process. Is it time to bin it and buy a new one?

I would.  The outside of the microwave is not supposed to  heat up at all.

that sounds like a combination unit.. They  have  a heating element in addition to the microwave magnetron.  I would expect them to get a bit hotter than a normal microwave but it is concerning that it is getting hotter than it used to when new. If you can afford to  replace  it , it might be time.   A repair shop should be able to determine if it is leaking microwave radiation fairly easily and it could be a simple matter of replacing the seal/gasket.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not convinced that the locals here could repair a microwave satisfactorily so I guess it's time to put my hand in my pocket and get a new one. 12 years is not bad I suppose.
