VOLUNTEER

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Good Foundation recognises that volunteers are a substantial and an integral part of the organisation and the commitment and contribution of volunteers is highly valued.

It's great to have a variety of volunteers, young and old, and from a range of different backgrounds. Volunteers come from all walks of life; from back-to-work schemes, employers' volunteer programmes, colleges and courses, are retired or have simply walked into a centre and expressed an interest in helping out.

Volunteers are involved in a range of tasks assisting Centre staff in the smooth roll out of classes. This may include handling and preparing ingredients, welcoming participants into the Centre for classes, supporting participants during classes, cleaning and tidying up after classes, putting stock away and restocking shelves with produce, maintaining cleanliness, order and hygiene in the Centre.

HELP NEEDED

We really couldn't achieve anything without volunteers! You are an essential part of the team, and our Centre and Truck teams rely on you. Our volunteers are great role models for students and create a brilliant path to get the wider community involved.

We understand that some volunteers can only dedicated their time to one class per week, and that's more than fine! However, each class needs to have at least two members of staff (one teacher and one volunteer) so we would love your help to cover all our classes and continue to educate Australia.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

AS A MINISTRY OF FOOD VOLUNTEER, YOU'LL BE:
  • Engaging directly with your local community
  • Able to commit to the same class each week — build relationships with participants
  • Arrive prior to the beginning of each class for briefing's
  • Assist with classes don't lead them, be there for participants don't do it for them
  • Able to work under the class leader in an assistance role
  • Practice kitchen safety and encourage participants to follow the rules
  • You will be provided with basic safety and health training
  • Trainers, Participants and Volunteers are all expected to join in and clean up
  • Most of all have fun, encourage and assist participants and at the same time make learning cooking fun!
