Alex Muspratt Williams
"A working sculpture" is how Alex describes the Flo spice grinder he designed for Jme. "On the outside it's a pretty extrovert design, but it means business. We've installed the best ceramic grind mechanism on the market, so it does the job exceptionally well. " Practicality like this is key for Alex who is currently living and working in India, designing for real people in a real world. "The resourcefulness of India is truly inspiring, " he says. "A great example is their pressed leaf plates used for serving snack foods which, once finished with, are eaten by the cows and converted into fertiliser. It's a man-made product that is fully integrated into the cycle of life - a good design model for any product." Buy Alex's Flo grinders now

Designer Q & A
The last product you bought for your home?
A 6ft fluorescent Bollywood sign hand-painted by a 72-year old Indian artist. He's sadly one of the last of a dying breed as more films are promoted with photoshopped posters.
If you weren't a designer you'd be?
A naturalist, like David Attenborough.
Your favourite room?
The bedroom. A lot goes on in my head in those moments before I fall asleep - I keep a notebook by the bed in case anything interesting springs to mind. It's amazing how acitve the imagination is when you're asleep!
Your biggest design indulgence?
My Royal Enfield motorcycle is an absolute pleasure...she purrs like a tiger!
