Alex Nicol is a small, independent distiller who has taken on the corporations to rescue two much-loved whiskies from the brink of extinction. Sheep Dip and Pig's Nose were both popular in the 1970s - at one stage, Sheep Dip was the bestselling brand in Harrods. "They were being taken off the market, which I thought was wrong because people liked them," says Alex. He bought the brands and secured the help of Scotland's only third-generation master blender and is now introducing a whole new generation of whiskey lovers to, what he feels, are delightfully iconoclastic brands.
