Leigh Purnell has just had her Jamie Oliver Wood Fired Oven delivered after winning a competition on JamieOliver.com. Leigh, from the Bath Area, was overjoyed at winning the competition – obvious from this picture we took when setting up with her.

She was going to build her own wood-fired creation in her garden, but this win has saved her a lot of bother. Leigh said this week:

“I’m not really very lucky, so I carried on looking for the right plan, dug around my garden to find clay patches and was just about to put an advert on Freecycle for other bits I’d need when I got the email telling me I’d won!”

Leigh added: “As a trained chef I have so far made burgers, lamb kebabs and pizza which all tasted incredible and so much better than anything we’ve made using the ordinary oven.”

The oven was delivered straight to Leigh and assembled in 20 minutes: “It’s really easy to use, you light the fire and then when it’s time to cook, you sweep it to the sides and either place the food directly onto the floor of the oven or use an old cake rack.  Both methods work well.  Right now, as we’re just getting used to it, we’re cooking simple things but I’m already thinking of what to make next and ways to use it, for instance  to make oven dried tomatoes and herbs when the oven is cooling down. So, thank you very, very much for the chance to own this fantastic oven or, as my boyfriends calls it, the cooking Dalek.  We love it!”
