Logan City will be the first of many communities across Queensland to benefit from nutritious cooking classes, following the announcement that Logan City will be the first to host Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen.

In an Australian first, commencing on 27th January 2012, the purpose built kitchen classroom on wheels will commence delivering a five week basic cooking course, comprising of one 90 minute class per week. Participants throughout the City will learn Jamie’s hints and shortcuts to cooking simple, nutritious and tasty meals using fresh ingredients. The course also covers meal planning, budgeting and shopping tips as well as key nutritional information.

Logan Mayor, councilor Pam Parker, welcomes Jamie’s Ministry of Food to Logan and is delighted Logan has been chosen as the first city in Queensland to roll out the program.

"This innovative partnership is a major coup for Logan and will provide residents with the ability to be healthy through learning to cook and manage eating for households - these are real life skills that can help reduce longer term spend on health services," Cr Parker said.

Logan City Council values activities that aim to teach local communities how to cook, shop, eat and live in healthier and more sustainable lifestyles and endeavors to promote core platforms to result in good healthy lives. "This is yet another free program that council is helping deliver so that we can be a healthy city and it kick starts Council's commitment to delivering a number of healthy programs to the city in 2012," she said.
"The program perfectly complements other active and healthy initiatives which Logan City Council promotes - it is about learning the basics, understanding how to cook and getting access to a completely free series of lessons. It's a program for young, old, men or women and it's about bringing world first technology and teaching methods to Logan so that the everyday community member can learn how to cook and eat well."
The partnership with The Good Foundation and subsequent delivery of Jamie’s Ministry of Food Truck Program will allow residents from across the city the opportunity to access and participate in an innovative community based cooking program built on Jamie Oliver’s beliefs about basic cooking skills and the associated impact on healthy living.

Jamie’s Ministry of Food Program Director, Alicia Peardon, says the Mobile Truck Program has received great interest among communities throughout Queensland and has a long journey ahead.

“After the success of our first center in Ipswich, we are thrilled to kick start the Truck Program in Logan City. The Truck will move location every 11 weeks and we intend to make our way around the State giving as many Queenslanders as possible access to the program.” Jamie’s Ministry of Food Truck will arrive in Logan on January 20th 2012 for 11 week, commencing its first round of five week courses on Thursday 27th January. Participants will take part in one 90-minute cooking class per week for five weeks where they will learn how to cook simple, nutritious and tasty meals using fresh ingredients.
