Apple crumble
Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/gas 5. Peel and core the apples, quarter and cut in to chunks.Put the apples in to a pan with the sugar and water. Cook over a low heat for 5 minutes and place in a small oven proof dish.
Place the flour and oats in a bowl and mix well. Cut the margarine or butter in to small cubes and add this to the oats and flour. Mix with your fingertips until it resembles an even crumb texture. Add the sugar and mix through.
Cover the fruit with the crumble mixture. Bake for approximately 20 minutes until the crumble is golden and the apple hot.

The recipe is nice, but I find it tastier and easier without cooking the apples first (both the cooking and the water makes them too slobbery), just take the raw apple chunks and put cinnamon and some sugar over them, then the crumble mixture (I hate oats - so without oats) and bake it as you describe. Some whipped cream (still a bit fluid) on it is tasty too.

hey jamie, loved your idea of school dinners, hasnt caught on in wales tho the food is disgusting wedges, croquettes and corned beef baguettes, doesnt sound nice and for 1.65 a day I think they r awful and not healthy warm food for primary and infant children.

I can't believe you even suggest using margarine. Either make it with butter or don't make it.

The Apple Crumble one - it only has double digit gms, are there 0's missing against the ingredient lists? i.e. 350gms instead of 25 gms?
