frozen grapes, chocolate & grappa

dessert recipes
If you’re having a nice night with mates and there’s good wine and some conversation happening then I think this is a lovely thing to bring out a few hours after dinner. It’s like a sorbet, but without the work. Fiery chilled grappa, good-quality chocolate and delicious frozen grapes are a great little combo that show you care and you’ve made a bit of effort. You could either use dark chocolate or a mixture of different flavours, depending on what you fancy.

Put your bottle of grappa and the grapes in the freezer about 2 to 3 hours before you want to serve them. Right before serving; give your bars of chocolate a good whack against the counter to break them up into large chunks.

Pile these chunks in the middle of a nice wooden board, arrange your frozen grapes beside them and serve with a nice little glass of grappa to sip on while you watch the grapes and chocolate disappear. So simple, but such a treat.

ingredients

• a bottle of chilled grappa
• 2 or 3 bunches of frozen grapes (Muscat grapes work really well)
• a few bars of good-quality chocolate (70% cocoa solids

1. Richard Tue 28 Jul 2009 @ 23:31 This looks great, cant wait to try! What would be an alternative to use instead of Grappa?
2. Marie Wed 22 Apr 2009 @ 21:18 This is all well and good, but I can't get grappa anywhere. Sainsbury's looked at me like I was asking for Dracula's blood!
3. Izy Mon 13 Apr 2009 @ 16:53 Just chucked some grapes in the freezer to eat with my dark choc. So curious about this after watching it a few months back on TV.
4. Anne Sun 01 Mar 2009 @ 23:20 Couldn't agree more about the Grappa, tried some in Roma in a small pizzeria, where you imagine it being served 'the Italian way'. However, obviously our taste buds don't quiver in the same way as the Italian's do!! Rocket fuel would be putting it mildly.
5. linda culhane Thu 26 Feb 2009 @ 22:10 I am really searching for a recipe for a chocolate mousse that was in the Naked Chef cookbook. Why doesn't come up when I search for it.
6. Wendy Thu 19 Feb 2009 @ 08:38 Any suggestions on an alternative to grappa please?
7. Steve Tue 10 Feb 2009 @ 15:14 Remember this dessert on one of the C4 shows ?
8. P Tue 10 Feb 2009 @ 14:41 The frozen grapes were fab!! but The Grappa...now thats another story. Managed to buy some at my local italian deli. We trie this on NY Eve, the Grappa was awful, hubbie described it as smelling like White Spirit!! Ended up throwing the bottle away!

10. Alison Simcock Fri 16 Jan 2009 @ 16:54 Sainsburys in Stoke have some grappa..... be quick though, there's not a lot!
11. Tony Soprano Sat 03 Jan 2009 @ 18:44 Grappa is an Italian after dinner digestivo it is normally clear and very strong. You should be able to find it in any Italian shop that sells alcohol. There is a shop in Cambridge called Limoncello they should sell it.

12. Anni Tue 30 Dec 2008 @ 20:42 Managed to get the last bottle of Grappa in sainsburys today..........guess what we're going to have at midnight tomorrow! Suberp Idea!
13. SJH Sun 28 Dec 2008 @ 11:25 I have also been looking for Grappa for this recipe, cannot find it locally, except at Vomm Fass which is charging £6.00 per 100ml.

All our local supermarkets seem to have stopped stocking it. If anyone can help with a supplier in Staffordshire would be very much obliged.
14. John Duncan Fri 26 Dec 2008 @ 23:16 We have tried this; the grapes and choclate are very nice but the grappa tastes like waste residue from a chemical factory. The smell is enough to turn grown men pale. We bought the grappa in in a tourist shop in Venice. My dinner guest says that this recipe is anything to go by there is no way he is going to do your turkey & leek pie! Any suggestions?
15. Lefty Tue 23 Dec 2008 @ 20:44 The frozen grapes work a treat! What a great idea Jamie!
16. Barbara Hyde Sat 20 Dec 2008 @ 12:25 I have been looking for Grappa for the above and can only find Grappy Julia locally, Is this also okay or could you tell me which Grappa you use and who stocks it.

Thank you
