A nice change from the time it takes to make cumquat jam.
Ingredients
cumquats
sugar
water
Method
Clean cumquats and remove stems. Cover with water and simmer cumquats till tender. Pour off water. Add 1 cup of sugar and half a cup of fresh water for each cup of fruit; add a little squeeze of lemon juice. Simmer till a little syrup sets like a soft jelly when dabbed on a cold saucer. Bottle at once (cleaned and sterlized). Seal.

This syrup works well. I added a star anise and a couple of cloves for a different flavour. It goes well with hot water and brandy as a warm winter drink.
