Old Fishereman's soup

A Greek style fish soup...called \"kakavia\" in Greek Aegian islands

Ingredients
2 codfishes or any other fish that you like
1 carrot
2 potatoes
celeri
1 big onion
extra virgin olive oil (1tea cup)
juice of one lemon
salt
a snap of sugar
pepper

Method
Cut onion ,carrot, potatoes and celeri into pieces and add them in a wide kettle.Roast them with olive oil, in a very slow fire until the onion turn its colour gold.In another kettle boil 6 glasses of salty water and cook the fishes for about 20 minutes in a slow fire. Remember that we want to take as much as possible broth we can. Drain the broth and add it into the kettle with the vegetables. You can also add the flesh of the fishes in the soup. Add the juice of 1 lemon, salt (as much as you like) and let the soup in a slow fire for at least 45 minutes. To add more taste in your soup you can add some shrimps but add them the last 10 minutes.
Serve it hot and drink a dry white wine.=)

We had this soup in Athens at an old time fish tavern with friends. I'm so grateful for this recipe. Thank you!
