Bash them against the counter stem side up so the leaves loosen and open slightly. This will allow the flavours to penetrate.
Put some olive oil (less than 1 tbsp) in a pot with a few peppercorns, place the artichokes inside, salt and cover with a lid.
Keep on low heat and every 15 minutes go, grab the handles, secure the lid in place with your fingers, and shake.
After about 45 minutes they should be done.
They'll look very dark and small, but trust me, they'll be delicious. Serve as they are.
To eat, just peel the leaves, one by one, and bite/scrap the tender bits off them. When you get to the core, you are allowed to grab knife and fork and eat it properly.
