Serve these little meatballs with a dipping sauce of your choice. Our favourites are aioli or chilli sauce.
Ingredients
500g minced pork and beef (50/50)
1/2 cup of fine, dried breadcrumbs
1 med.onion, finely chopped
8-10 large basil leaves, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, crushed or finely chopped
1 red chilli, finely chopped
1 tsp fennel seeds, crushed
1 tsp cumin seeds, crushed
1 tsp hot paprika
Salt and ground black pepper to season
Some olive oil for frying
Method
1. Place the onions in a small bowl and blitz in the microwave for approx. 2 mins (full power), to soften. Allow to cool down.
2. Add the onions, spices and herbs to the minced meat and knead the mixture well. Pop the mixture in the fridge for about 1 hour to allow flavours to develop.
3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs then fry in a little olive oil till browned and cooked through. Allow to drain on some kitchen towels.
Serve hot or at room temperature.

Well Jamie, what can I say? Interesting as always to try out your recipes. This one was a bit on the oriental side for my taste though. And be warned: If you micro the onion as desbribed, you will need a food processor or similar to fine chop it. Next time I will replace the cummin seeds with nutmeg, and see what happens.
