  • These are so delicious. I make them every Christmas.
  • Vermont Maple Cookies
  • Cookie ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 TBSP maple flavor
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Icing: Maple butter glaze
  • Heat 1/2 cup butter until golden. Blend in 2 cups of powdered sugar and 2 tsp maple flavoring.
cookies:
Mix shortening, brown sugar, sugar and eggs. Stir in sour cream and maple flavoring. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and blend in with the wet mixture. Chill dough till soft (overnight or put in freezer for a short time to firm up).

Drop rounded teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake 375 degrees for 10 mins or until almost no imprint remains when touched slightly. Cool.

icing:
Heat 1/2 cup butter until golden. Blend in 2 cups of powdered sugar and 2 tsp maple flavoring.

Warning: if it looks like it is curdling, that's normal. Turn heat to low and add in 1 tsp of water while stirring until it smooths out. Use more water if needed, gradually adding till icing turns smooth.
