Then tip them all plus the other ingredients into your blender.
Depending on how fresh/strong your garlic is you might not even need as much as half a clove. It isn't cooked so it tastes pretty strong.
Whizz it all up. You're aiming for a uniform consistency - but not a complete paste, flecks of chickpea (and black pepper) will be noticeable.
Now taste. You probably need a bit more salt and or lemon juice. Another quick whizz and you're ready to eat.
