Pass it on @ work
Hi guys,
I’ve just held a massive Pass it On event at the Magna Centre here in Rotherham where I taught 1,000 people an easy, tasty recipe. It was such a brilliant feeling to see so many people cooking together in one place. I was told nearly one quarter of the local workforce was represented so well done and a big thanks to those of you that came along.
I challenged everyone who was there to go back to their office, factory, warehouse, hospital or school and get at least two other members of staff cooking as well. Hopefully, this will go a long way to getting as many people as possible cooking again. It’s a great way of bringing people together, having fun and creating a healthier workplace so there’s every reason to get involved.
Basically, if everyone who came to the Magna Centre passes on their dish to just two more people we’ll have 3,000 people cooking. And if they pass it on to two more people we’ll have 7,000 people cooking! Just think of what a fantastic result that would be. I know we can do it if we work together. If you’re inspired to be part of this then pop by one of the cooking classes at the local Ministry of Food, learn how to make a delicious meal and then pass that on to two of your mates at work. Easy!
If you want the company you work for to get involved in Pass it On then check out the information we’ve added to help get you started.

If you’re a local business…
We’ll be following up the day at the Magna Centre with cooking classes where your staff members can learn some of Jamie’s 10 recipes, to pass on within your company.
Please ring the centre on 01 709 365 944 and speak to our lovely ladies, Lisa and Jane to book in for cooking classes.
Please let us know how many people at your workplace are taking part so we can update your company listing on our website.
Why should your business take part in Pass it On?
Your employees will have fun, develop a new skill, build their confidence and cooking together will boost team spirit.Enjoying food and cooking can help people to change their diet and lead to a healthier and happier workforce.
You’ll be part of a high-profile campaign supporting the Ministry of Food TV series, which will be airing this autumn.
You’ll be participating in a new movement to get the whole nation cooking again.
You’ll be doing it for charity. The national campaign will be supported by Jamie’s charity, the Fifteen Foundation, to help run more projects for nutritionally vulnerable young people.
If you sign up, we’ll put your company name on the home page of this Rotherham website as a founder supporter.
“The trainees at Fifteen in London tell me the reason they value learning how to cook is because it builds their confidence. Cooking for their mates and family is rewarding and also restores their respect and understanding of food. And of course, the big prize is that they get to enjoy eating a great meal together at the end of it.” - Jamie
How can your business get involved?
Here are a few helpful tips:
Get someone wonderfully enthusiastic to volunteer to be in charge! They can help get the staff excited about cooking classes and keep track of numbers so you know how many of your staff are taking part.
Find a group of volunteer cooks who will be your ambassadors within the company. They will sit at the top of your cooking chains, to trigger Pass It On. Ask for help from your HR/marketing/CSR departments.
Help your staff to set up their first cooking session. Here are a few things to consider when doing this;
- Will you have a simple demonstration or a cooking class?
- Will it be a one-off event or the first of 10 weekly sessions where staff will learn all 10 recipes?
- Where you will hold it?
- When you will hold it?
- How much will ingredients, equipment and extras like aprons cost? Make a budget so you have a good idea of expenses. It shouldn’t cost much per person.
- What equipment will everyone need? Should people bring equipment from home like frying pans to keep costs down?
Once you’ve decided on all of these things, choose a day to launch Pass It On and get everyone excited about it! Get everyone involved. Get managers to cook for their teams. Get young staff to cook for the older ones – or vice versa. Team up your newest and longest-serving employees.
Set goals to keep up the momentum. Encourage everyone towards learning how to cook all 10 recipes on the website. Introduce a little competition! For example, you could reward those who have passed it on the most times.
And, most importantly, make sure everyone registers on our website so that they can let us know each time they cook a dish and Pass It On, allowing us to keep track of progress in Rotherham.
