'field to fork' learning...

It is important that the apprentices are educated on the provenance of each ingredient; this is called field-to-fork learning. It's a way for the apprentices to familiarise themselves with premium producers and top-class ingredients, so that they can carry this ethos with them throughout their professional careers.

To aid in this learning, apprentices get to visit some of the UK’s most well-respected suppliers - farmers, cheese-makers and salt-makers - as part of their training to inspire in them a passion for great food and respect for the environment. By experiencing ingredients first-hand in natural surroundings, the apprentices gain an understanding and respect for food and its origins.
