Introducing our first Friday Night Supper Club

Supper CLubWe are very excited to announce our first Friday Night Supper Club in aid of the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation.  The pop-up banquet will feature four courses from some of the best chefs on the supper club scene, with full drinks service throughout.

Uyen Luu, author of ‘My Vietnamese Kitchen’, will be preparing the starter. Luu creates delicious Vietnamese dishes passed on from her family. Uyen said: “I’ve been hosting supper clubs for nearly 5 years at my home in Hackney and it’s changed my life! To take part at The Big Feastival is so exciting. I am sure the atmosphere is going to be amazing and electric!”

Food writer, James Ramsden, who recently published his latest book ‘Love Your Lunchbox’, will supply the main course. James said; “I’m incredibly excited to be part of The Big Feastival’s Supper Club. Having run one of my own in a London flat for several years it’s going to be fun transporting the idea to a field in Oxfordshire. Doing the main course after the brilliant Uyen Luu’s Vietnamese-style starter is a somewhat daunting honour, so I’m going to try to take the Vietnamese thing further but add my own take, grilling whole collars of pork in a brilliant Big Green Egg with masses of South East Asian flavours, and serving with some smashed sesame noodles and pickled vegetables. Can’t wait.“

Finishing The Big Feastival Supper Club menu will be the dynamic duo Jackson & Levine, AKA Laura Jackson and Alice Levine serving dessert. Jackson & Levine, stars of TV and radio, bonded over their love of food, going on to launch their very own supper club earlier this year. Alice and Laura said: “We are so thrilled to be cooking at this year’s Big Feastival. We’ve gone for Eton mess with a twist. We wanted to do a summer classic with some really interesting flavours. It should be the perfect end to what will be an incredible feast.”

An amuse bouche will be provided by Kim Somauroo and Laura Field, who host regular supper clubs at Jamie’s Fifteen.

Fresh rice paper rolls with prawns & green mango, Vietnamese herbs served with a pineapple & lime dip. Vegetable curry swirls, chicken salad with kohlrabi, red onion, cabbage, pistachios & a chilli fish sauce dressing.

Main Course by James Ramsden
Slow cooked Vietnamese style pork collar, smashed sesame noodles, pickled vegetables & a fragrant herb salad.

Dessert by Jackson & Levine
Home-made meringues with summer berries & rosewater cream, topped with pistachios and candied flowers.

Jam-packed programme of family entertainment just announced!

kids news storyThe Big Feastival is thrilled to announce fantastic new additions to the family entertainment line-up. Read on to see who will be joining the brilliant Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park, CBeebies Superstar Justin Fletcher and fellow CBeebies presenter Ben Faulks a.k.a Mr Bloom.

Roll up, roll up!
Drum roll please as the line-up for this year’s Big Top tent has been revealed! Tatty Bumpkin will start each day the right way with yoga classes for mums, dads and little ones. Legendary kids’ entertainers Sharky & George are set to cause organised chaos with a daily dose of ‘Family Olympics’ and their much-loved water bomb catapult. Expect great story telling, cheesy jokes and chedderific quizzes from Puffin Books famous mouse, Geronimo Stilton, with book give-aways each day. Meanwhile Mampara Dance will be taking to the dance floor to teach everyone some new moves with a weekend programme including Funky Disco, Charleston, Rock ‘n’ Roll and the CanCan.

Hands on fun…
In The Workshop, highlights will include The British Film Institute with their stop motion animation workshops creating crazy characters from fruit and vegetables. Calypso Kids will be bringing buckets of musical fun to entertain Big Feastival’s youngest festivalgoers including a percussion workshop for little ones as young as 6 months. It’s the 50th anniversary of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and we are delighted to have the award-winning Roald Dahl Museum at Big Feastival with their magical storytellers and themed workshops set to enchant kids of all ages. Finally, Phoenix Comics will be making a welcome return, hosting their comic book making workshops with incredible guest artists running daily sessions. With all of this and more to come, there’s no excuse not to get creative at this year’s festival!

Little Dudes Den is back!
This year’s Little Dudes Den will host LEGO presents The Imagination Factory, giving fans young and old the chance to enter into a LEGO world and let their imaginations run wild. The award-winning Bubbles Inc with 9-time world record holder Samsam the Bubbleman will be back with their unique bubbleology to entertain the crowds. Bear Nibbles will be bringing Bear and his ‘Bear Cave’ to offer fun, games and the ultimate Treasure Hunt. Making their Little Dudes debut, Organix present their ‘Goodies Tour’ where kids can explore food through songs, try tastings and take part in potting parties. Everyone’s favourite Sylvanian Families will also make an appearance, with character walk-abouts and their nostalgic toy range.

The stars of Food Tube join the festival line up!

The stars of Jamie Oliver’s award-winning youtube channel will be causing culinary mayhem every day at the festival as they take over The AEG Big Kitchen with a daily special. Hosted by the one and only DJ BBQ, expect energetic and entertaining performances from all of your Food Tube favourites.

On Friday – join John Quilter, the ex-restaurant chef turned TV star and ‘Food Busker’, and Felicitas Pizarro, who’s coming all the way from Argentina especially for The Big Feastival!

On Saturday – it’s a breakfast special with Food Tube favourite Jemma Wilson, aka Cupcake Jemma, creator of artistic and delicious cakes and owner of the fantastic Crumbs & Doilies bakery. Joining Jemma is the one of the Two Greedy Italians, Gennaro Contaldo, the man who taught Jamie Oliver everything he knows about Italian food.

And finally, taking to the stage with DJ BBQ on Sunday – we have a very special triple bill. The incredibly talented Michela Chiappa will showcase her Simply Italian cooking skills alongside the ingenious Barry Lewis from My Virgin Kitchen. Completing the line-up is former Fifteen student and mum on a budget-conscious, healthy-eating mission, Kerryann Dunlop.

Autograph hunters should also get their pens ready as DJ BBQ, Cupcake Jemma and Kerryann Dunlop will be signing copies of their debut books following their on stage specials.

Introducing Our First Ever Festival Allotment!

Potato plantingThe Big Feastival takes place on Alex James’s idyllic Cotswold farm and what better way to celebrate our lovely location than with our very own ‘field to fork’ story?

We don’t just want to champion home-grown talent at the festival, with the likes of Stornoway and Duke on the Main Stage and Emily Watkins and James Graham cooking in The Big Kitchen, we also want all of our festival-goers to enjoy the delights of home-grown food.

In April this year, we got together with The Royal Agricultural University to design our first ever festival allotment and with the help of local school children, we’ve planted potatoes, garlic, onions and herbs which will all (fingers crossed) be ready in time for this year’s Big Feastival.

Over the festival weekend, we’ll be encouraging festival-goers of all ages to visit The Potato Patch where the team from The Royal Agricultural University will be on hand to teach them all about growing their own vegetables and help them to dig up potatoes and pick their own herbs.

Armed with their own freshly dug up potatoes and accompaniments, food fans can then prep and cook their own home-grown delights under the expert guidance of Jamie’s Kitchen Garden Project and Potato Council.

THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY

We are delighted to be working with a team from the The Royal Agricultural University to create this year’s inaugural Potato Patch. Established in 1845, the University in Cirencester is recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in the delivery of education, research and consultancy in agriculture and the rural environment.

THE RAU ENTREPRENEURS

The Royal Agricultural University Entrepreneurs is a student society created by students, for students, to develop their business skills through hands-on experience. The society has proved a hotbed for fresh thinking, innovative products and sustainable produce. A selection of RAU Entrepreneurs will be showcasing their work at The Big Feastival and festival-goers can visit their tent to sip, sample and shop some of the student’s latest creations.

JAMIE’S KITCHEN GARDEN PROJECT

Jamie’s Kitchen Garden Project are cooking up an exciting, hands-on food education programme for primary school children across the UK, enabling primary schools to bring food knowledge and cooking skills to life. Jamie’s core team will be next to our Potato Patch all weekend, running a fun programme of classes throughout the festival where kids of all ages can cook the potatoes and other freshly picked produce.

POTATO COUNCIL

Potato Council have sourced Red Tractor assured seeds for our allotment project and will also be on hand over the three days, running activities for all the family. Pop on to Potato Council’s stand and try their potato samples and learn about the nutritional benefits of potatoes. There are also plenty of colouring sheets for kids, as well as recipe leaflets to take home to try for yourself and you can also meet their mascot ‘Potato Pete’.

De La Soul Laura Mvula Rachel KhooWe are excited to announce that hip-hop legends De La Soul will be rocking the farm on Sunday 31 August and soul sensation Laura Mvula will be gracing our Main Stage on Saturday 30 August. The excitement doesn’t end there as Parisian cuisine queen Rachel Khoo, chef extraordinaire Mark Hix, MasterChef 2013 winner Natalie Coleman and celebrity chef Levi Roots will also be joining an already stellar programme of chefs appearing on The AEG Big Kitchen stage across the weekend. The latest roll call of culinary stars join leading chefs Jamie Oliver, Gennaro Contaldo, Monica Galetti, Ashley Palmer-Watts, Nathan Outlaw, Valentine Warner, Gizzi Erskine and Martin Morales for an incredible line up of epicurean talent.

The Big Feastival isn’t just about world class music and the UK’s best chefs – festival-goers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to what to eat and drink with an enviable selection of market stalls to sip, sample and shop. The Food & Drink Markets boast the cream of the crop, featuring incredible produce from the local area and beyond – from handmade fudge to freshly baked breads and artisan ice cream, the festival is packed full of foodie delights.

There’s fun for all the family with the brilliant Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park making a welcome return and live performances from CBeebies Superstars Justin Fletcher and Ben Faulks a.k.a Mr Bloom. Full details of this year’s Little Dudes Den are still to be announced, with an exciting programme of kids activities and satellite stages to be revealed in the coming weeks.
